CougarFull MemberI think the first album I bought, in a shop, with my own money, rather than parents picking it up for me or whatever, was T’Pau’s Bridge of Spies.
Oddly, it’s also the most recent album I’ve bought, sort of. It’s about to be released as a ”Story Behind The Tracks” CD / DVD package and I’ve just preordered it.
Singles wise, might well have been Dire Straits’ Money For Nothing, or maybe a Def Leppard single. I can’t actually remember now. I spent a good amount of time around college days raiding the record stalls on the local markets and the local independent record stores (hey kiddies, remember those?!)
First album / single I owned via parents buying for me as a sprog is harder to remember. The album was probably the Animal Kwackers after seeing them live (!) when I was very little (god, I’ve just realised, that was probably my first gig, I’ve been telling people for years that it was Donington…). I’ve also got a very old Wombles album, and a Houghton Weavers LP I inherited from my grandad. Singles, gods only know; something like Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs, or Save All Your Kisses For Me, or something, probably.
Excellent thread idea btw, good call.
