Another vote for a Unit. Mines still SS but with a set of Reba’s.

Here it is in guarded winter spec:

Triton had Cannondale trails real cheap. Decent frameset and wheels.

Or in stw recommend What you have tradition.. a surly karate monkey

I’d also like to try a singular swift

The Kona unit does look nice I must say.
Do on one only sell the frame option?

If you don’t want to buy a dedicated ss machine then a chain tensioner is a good option. On One do a cheap ‘doofer’, but the Gusset Squire is better. On One, Uber and Superstar do cheap hub spacers and sprockets.

Chains are cheap. You should be abke to convert for under £40 easily.

It’s definitely worth a go. A lot easier than you’d think to ride too. One thing that really smoothed things out for me was an Absolute Black oval chainring. It really helps to get up the hills out of the saddle as it makes you feel like you’re on a gym step machine.

    Have fun!

How about this one i have for sale….
On One Lurcher 29 single speed
18″ frame. Excellent condition, two years old but hardly used. Colour grey. On one rigid rounded carbon forks. Shimano SLX brakes. XTR 32″ chain set , 18″ rear sprocket. Mavic 719 rims on hope hubs. Easton monkey lite carbon bars. USE carbon seat post. Some scuffs on the cranks. Photos available, I could split if enough interest. £450 plus postage, I’m in Devon. mail in profile.

When you say a ‘go’, what do you mean?

If you have a 29er already wouldn’t it be easier to convert it?

If you don’t, then why not consider a frame that can do both gears and singlespeed and then you have options?

    Singular Swift

    El Mariachi

The latter two I’ve had, both great, the Swift is the more ‘steel’ of the two due to it’s skinnier tubes, the el mariachi feels stiffer/tougher. Which is better would be personal preference, I’d rather the swift but wanted a tapered headtube.

Singular Swift would be ideal. I have a Rooster running as a 29+ singlespeed and its bloody brilliant

Santa cruz highball, if you don’t want to wear the robes of the steel devout.

At the budget end there’s the Voodoo Bizango that has vertical dropouts that can be shifted back and fore. Good way to try the idea cheaply, but a surprisingly good ride.

If I was looking for one, which I’m not, I’d be tempted by the Transition TransAm – like on that Chris Smith video from a few days ago. Although that has gears you can run it SS too.

Cheers for the recommendation guys. Will have a look through them all tonight.
    I have a 27.5 atm that’s why I’ll be needing a full bike.
    Cheers
