  • What rear hub instead of a Hope Pro 2, it's just too noisy

Just wondering, the noise of the Hope Pro2 is getting on my wick. Sure sound folk think I’ve got some sort of metallic playing card pegged to frame striking the spokes or something.

I don’t notice it on the trails but riding around the streets! 😯

    1) stop ridin round the streets
    2) try DT swiss
    3) embrace cup and/the balls and buy more tools and lots of grease to keep something ticking along

Crack open the freehub and load it with grease.

    Nice and quiet now .

Top end Shimano & a set of cone spanners.
    Sound lovely by comparison.

DT Swiss 240. A little bit of Pedro’s Oil in the ring drive and they’re totally silent!

American classic – a purr rather than a football rattle.

DT Swiss 240 if you can afford em

DT Swiss 350 if you can’t. It’s got the same internals and is priced similarly to Hope albeit slightly heavier

Seriously? Try pedaling instead of free wheeling , that’ll keep it quiet.

Crack open the freehub and load it with grease.

Be careful not to put too much grease in it, that can make the pawls fail to engage properly and skip

That’s because three out of the four springs are broken. 😉

Royce Venus Disc is what I use, very nice indeed. Only available is polished silver colour though.

    I’ve Pro 2’s, Pro 2 evo’s and DT240’s.

They are all noisy, although the evo’s are the quietest.

The new Pro2 Evos (40 tooth ratchet) are even quieter.

Replacing the springs and bearings shortly – give me the loud back…! 8)

DT240S, much quieter than a Hope (and lighter, and stronger, and more reliable, and better sealed)- buy a used wheel though, they’re stupidly expensive but a good buy in a wheelset.

Just bought a DT Swiss rear and 10mm axle.

sod it, i cant take the Hope Pro 2 football rattle any longer

Anyone want an almost mint condition hope Pro 2 rear hub with bolts instead of QR? (fits QR)

I have two sets of Pro II Evos, one is the newer 40T ratchet thingy and it’s definitely quieter. Not much in it compared to some of the new shimano hubs, and they’re not a patch on older hopes noise wise.

You simply can’t go wrong with hope. I love my new hope pro 2 Evo 40t engagement.
    It makes a lovely sound.
