to be a Shen Yun dancer?

I imagine that most of us have seen this ad on YouTube in the last few months. Regardless, I suggest it’s worth watching again. And again.

I love dance anyway – classical ballet; modern; folk – but this is amazing.

Anyone else impressed?

It looks superhuman. The thing for me about these types of performance arts is that like greyhound racing, I always think something sinister is going on with the ones that don’t make it.

I would imagine it takes a hugely authoritarian govt selecting kids that show an aptitude for dance, gymnastics  and ballet from an early age, and controlling every aspect of their lives from that moment forward with the end product being (by the looks of it) popular Cultural Propaganda.

I’ve a friend in a dance (ballet) company and the workload and injury rates are pretty hefty, I can only imagine what that would be like here.
