I think I might know the answer to this but… £110 for this is not a good deal, right?

Grim. Wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole.

£110 would be a bit steep then right?

Was it an eBay purchase / paid for via PayPal? If it’s not what it’s described as that’d be returned quick sharp!

That would be correct. Good luck in getting the refund!

There was a thread on here the other day ‘what do u think to my frame’ with just a link to the pics

OP, was that you or the seller who posted that?

edit: see you’ve changed the title. Yeah, if you’ve bought it you’ve been had.

The quill stem should have given away it wasn’t what it was being sold as, surely?

The best thing for that surely would be a steamroller.

I’ve seen better in a skip.

What are those holes in the top tube for! Look added!

Internal cable routing isn’t new, you know.

Sadly it’s a very low end frame with a very poor paint job. The right “skip” bike or shed find with a fresh powdercoat would have left you with a much nicer frame and a big pile of serviceable components.

Hope you paid by paypal or similar and good luck.

its an old frame hacked about – those holes were never there from new – they have been added and possibly the track ends as well

Looks like a 70s basic road frame with holes drilled in it and track ends added.

I wouldn’t ride it.  Looks lethal

Did you not inspect before you parted with the cash? Id hang it on the wall or give it the scrap man.

Surly haven’t made any lugged frames AFAIK, though older Steamrollers did have 1″ (unthreaded) headtubes. Looks like someones tack-welded it to cover brazing failure.

Ooh man that is terrible. This frame? https://m.pinkbike.com/buysell/2284727/

“hey here i have my surly steamroller frame set. shes never been ridden. does have a few scuffs on the left chainstay from storage and a chip in the paintwork on the top tube but apart from that shes brand new!!!”

    Jeez!!

    From the Pinkbike advert:

and spent a further 150 on it with all the other bits

£150 for a headset, square taper BB and a quill stem?

I think the clue is in the seller’s name:

    “teef”…

Gave up trying to quote it, this site is shite at the moment for posting

I mean wtf? did Google not work when you were checking out that frame, drunk purchase or just keen to bag that bargain?

I guess who wouldn’t want £450’s worth of never ridden frame a bits for a ton? At least he kept his shipping to a tenner.

Hope you get your money back OP.

The guy’s sound (I think/hope), he genuinely believed in what he was selling. It will be going back and refund given or my faith in humanity will take a hit (it was paypal’d with fee’s but I’d rather not have to go down the dispute route). I was pretty sure it wasn’t a roller but if it was of a similar STD I would have taken it but it’s not very good to put it mildly…

Steamrollers are welded, not brazed IIRC…

The fact someone has posted ‘SCAMMER!!!’ on his pinkbike profile page says it all really.

Anyone who starts an advert with “here we have” or “here I have” is one of two things.

    1. A scammer

    2. A complete idiot.

Or they could be both, I suppose.
