    What an evening…..

Got an invite to the Florence Rowing Club. One of the GF’s client invited us along. Never had to hide my rough’n’ready roots or my opinions so much*….

Turned out there was an international event with teams from various countries.

    Loads of toffee Brits.

Never met so many **** hoorah Henrys in my life. What a bunch of Berks.

Just some of the phrases I had to endure….

“oh ya, I’ve been at Cambridge”

    “I’m a cox**”

“today I’m wearing Dolce and Gabanna”

“what school did you attend? ***”

Despite all that, the surprising thing was how many of these people believed in an alternative agenda… **** knows how we got onto that topic… Think it was one of the boatshoe wearing Henrys talking about the up coming election. The amount of nodding and agreement that arised when they spoke about a new government agenda, how we are being controlled by 5g via the American government.

    **** surreal evening.

I’m probably a lot more pissed now than I would have been had we not met these people or got onto such random topics.

What a bunch of psychotic and jaded  twunts.

*for the sake of my GF and her relationships/reputation

**spelling is dependant on the role, but still questionable because I really thought he was a ****.

*** you’ve probably never heard of it you upper class ****.

At some point one of the group got onto the topic of Nato and Ukraine.

The idea that Nato had instigated the war and that Putin was reacting to western aggression wasn’t challenged by anyone but me…. I got talked down when I suggested that it was bollocks….  It was a proxy war, instigated by the US to expand its aggression.

I went and got another beer.

**** me, I’ve not drunk this much in ages and I drink a lot.

This ain’t good for me sanity.

    These people are dcking crazy

    @thols2

    That was kinda my reaction.

Trying to keep a straight face and not say anything “controversial”…. The lady that invited us it’s one of the GF’s biggest clients.

    Go to bed.

And in the morning just ponder if it’s possible that the world might be made up of people that do not exactly think the danger way you do.

Or do we all have to have the same view?

One of the few services the likes of, erm, the “soon to be non influential people in our democracy” have done is to show that huge privilege and the best schooling money can buy doesn’t seem to have a good outcome much of the time. Either in intelligence or character, more importantly.

It’s been a painful lesson but an important one.

Anyway, sod ’em, you did right by your missus and you can see what they are, which is more than that are able to do.👍😁

I do find that being exposed to some one who believes things that really can’t be true is disconcerting

A guy i was at school with posted a link to a thing on “X” about how the world was controlled by WHO with covid and climate change both made up to add to their power

    Yeah, that came up, too.

How many pairs of red trousers though?

Lost count. Oh and polka dot dresses.

The number of “ooh yar… I from Lohndon, too”….. I’m thinking no you ain’t, at least not from my end.

    Surreal evening.

You seem very triggered. Hmm. You must be aware of all the different factors leading up to the invasion of Ukraine? eg, the 2014 Donbas war, threat of NATO expansion, etc etc, I’m not going to go over all the points leading up to it and triggers? Many commentators have been saying more or less this long before the invasion:

**Sorry, link to extremist left wing propaganda rag…**

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/feb/28/nato-expansion-war-russia-ukraine

So given the various facts and the various perspectives, why are you struggling with the reality that you will meet people with different but equally valid opinions to your own? Seems a very, erm, socialist reaction.

huge privilege and the best schooling money can buy

Obviously those @alpin were talking to did not receive the “best education” as their critical thinking seems a bit off and their humility has not been enhanced.

Being from Lincolnshire we look down on the people who had to go to public schools. We still have the grammar school system there, so the bright ones went there, those who failed the 11+ but who’s parents had money went to public school and those without money went to the local comp. So us grammar school boys tend to think of the public school boys as a bit thick🤷

Sorry poop…. I’m feeling kinda sprightly.

The crazy thing is, the GF’s client who invited us along to this regatta is a very successful lady. Gives TED talks, deals with lots of big businesses and jets around the world to meet some very influential people.

(Not going to out her here because it’s bloody lucrative for the GF.)

There was a drone buzzing along the river filming the boat racing. That turned the topic to brain chips being implanted by drones and 5G being used to manipulate the people’s subconscious.

I’m just as in awe of last night now as I was last night.

It felt like a bad dream.

I don’t know how true it is now but a lot of these “best schools” have a reputation for their debating societies.

The aim is just winning the argument. Not critical thinking or humility or accepting that you’re on the wrong side of the argument and adjusting your views.

And sadly, that has been brought into politics over the last few decades since most of the politicians go to Eton/Winchester/Repton and then onto Oxbridge where such debating societies thrive and you get the likes of Boris Johnson who can bullshit and bluster and spin til the cows come home.

It’s why politicians (and folk like @alpin encountered) can hold forth on a topic and sound reasonably knowledgeable but as soon as they’re questioned on it they get all tetchy and start talking down at you, talking over you and just lording their privilege to end the argument.

and 5G being used to manipulate the people’s subconscious.

Wish someone/thing would control my subconscious so I’m not permanently wracked by anxiety, and procrastination. Or, maybe ‘they’ already are, and that was ‘their’ plan all along… 🤔 I’ve had covid jabs too, and my phone doesn’t like 5g…maybe that’s because I’m taking all the 5g signal strength…

    Should I be worried STW??

    Yeah but…

Any group that has a strong internal links will be an echo chamber, you just happened to be in one that you’ve never encountered before. High thee along to the election thread and read some of comments on @Cougars local group and you’ll hear the equally retarded views of folks who weren’t born with sliver spoons in their mouths.

I’ve never really got inverted snobbery or any snobbery for that matter – it normally comes from some sort of inferiority complex or jealousy. People are people in my experience; some are fine and some aren’t so fine.

With the brain chipping; i don’t know how you can think it’s not a conspiracy with companies such as Neuralink et al who have the active aim of creating a brain / computer interface….

“what school did you attend? ***”

I was actually on the receiving end of this line when I went to Cambridge for my interview 😂

I hadn’t really clocked that “privilege” was a thing by that point, and day 1 had all been state school kids so everything felt fairly normal and we’d all been to the pub to get pissed the night before (and being a load of engineering geeks had orchestrated 3-blind-mice played across an organ of part drunk pints of cider down the table, which illustrates how much cider may have been drunk).  So it was a bit of a shock on the 2nd night when the private school kids turned up in their blazers and didn’t want to come out with us.

The weirdest thing was the undertone of passive-aggressive-competitiveness form them. Day 1 we’d all been comparing notes on interviewers, figuring out how the exam had gone and the general feeling was that everyone wanted everyone else to succeed. That evaporated pretty quickly!

Reminds me of the articles written a few years ago of a Chap (Damien Furness)  experience of spending an evening in the bar at an Oxford interview with Johnson and his hangers on.

Not such a jolly chap after all (to the surprise of no-one )

It’s an odd one, until that point hadn’t had any negative interactions with anyone.  I can’t really comment on the actual university / college, maybe the ones that run the interviews are self selecting ‘nice’ people that want to help or disproportionately the ones that need a job over the half term breaks when the interviews are.

So I’d defend the university / college itself as not being elitist beyond the entry requirements meaning they’re going to get a disproportionate number of private school kids with AAA grades. But there’s definitely a class of people there who fit the stereotypes.

    Bollocks.

One guy wearing a straw hat asked me what it is I do. I said “I’m a carpenter”.

He looked really confused…. didn’t really know where to go with the conversation.

One girl asked whether we lived in Florence. Her face was a mix of confusion, repulsion and perhaps intrigue when I told her that we live in a van. Even more confused when I told her no, not just for holidays, but full time for nigh on two years.

But @alpin, how do you square all that with you being a Sovereign Citizen and everything?

    That new to me!
