What a wet cold ride – i quit
Aimed to do 50-60 road miles this morning. Set off in heavy rain and it got heavier!
My Endura stealth breached, my seal skinz gloves were shite at best, my hands were so cold i could barely grip the bars, and to cap it all the bar tape was so wet and waterlogged it unwrapped off the bars!
First ride EVER where i have quit and got picked up 10km short of home – the shame!Posted 5 years agodavidtaylforthMember

Indeed. In all my years of cycling I have never done this. I just make sure I ride only on nice days!
Actually, I got a puncture on the Fred Whitton a few years ago and nearly gave up. Couldnt change gear that day, my hands were so cold.Posted 5 years agomarvincooperMember
I rode home from work Wednesday which left me no choice but cycling back on Thursday, which was the most unpleasant 90 minutes I can remember having on a bike. Torrential rain, feet soaked despite sealskins and goretex boots, had to take the mountain bike with useless mudguards and a slow puncture cos the road bike gears are up the creek. It was so bad I briefly thought that getting knocked off and finding myself in a nice warm hospital would be preferable! Slicks on the mountain bike and a session on the rollers for me tonight.Posted 5 years agodannyhMember
I had a pretty ‘mission-type’ ride in the Peaks on Thursday in the pissing rain. No ‘hoppy-poppy’ descents for me – just making sure I didn’t bin it on my own. I saw one group of walkers and some blokes working on an irrigation channel and that was it.
It was still a good ride, though. Better than Xmas shopping, better than work, better than just sitting on the sofa.Posted 5 years agoTiRedMember
TWO people turned up for the club ride at 9 AM (usual turnout is about 50). I was not one of them. I have however raced (badly) at Hillingdon this afternoon.
To be honest I was hoping for MORE and HEAVIER rain this afternoon to thin the field. It’s the only way I’ll get any points 🙄Posted 5 years agoslinkybikeMember
I am staying in Cambridge with the outlaws away from oz and I been amazed at the people riding on the road today with the rain that it is. I can only put this down to being stir crazy sitting around the house, I can remember after our baby was born happily setting off into a rain storm as a break from the house.Posted 5 years agosmiththemainmanMember
Good effort 40 + miles done, more than most today.Same conditions up in Lakes yesterday met mate at 8-30 out for 5 hrs 75 miles soaked to the skin, just got on with it and got it done ,its in the lung and leg bank now, if I hadn’t been meeting mate then I would have found all sorts of excuses ,that is the secret for me and I’ve always told myself u only get wet once!!! Keep going and your spring rides will be better for it!!!Posted 5 years ago
