I’m after a quality, probably leather, chunky item that holds notes and cards and fills out my hand nicely so it doesn’t always feel like I am about to drop or lose it.

I had a nice Superdry one that unfortunately got pick-pocketed in Lisbon. I ‘temporarily’ replaced it with a Next one, which I still have 3 years later. John Lewis have a decent range of quite swanky options.

If you want super niche (and not particularly cheap), there is a place in Australia where i have bought a couple of wallets and a bag for the wife. I used to live nearish so would pop in to see them.

They are called Jones and Wright and they are traditional leather workers (he comes from a family of saddlers). They make handmade leather wallets (amongst other things), and you can select the leather (animal, colour etc), the stitching, dimensions, no. of card slots etc. The chap that runs it is a really nice fella, and i’m sure you could email him and see if he could do it all by skype.

But if you fancy a holiday, you could always pop to Oz 😉   they are in a beautiful little village in the southern highlands out of Sydney…

I got a “Cycle of good” one from Mrs brain for our anniversary, not leather but I like the ethics, it’s a good size and given what it’s made of I imagine it’ll last (probably better than leather in my case as it’ll stretch better)

Money/card clip, about £3 on ebay. Lasts forever although I do occasionally crush it a bit in a vice to give it some more ‘spring’.

I have an Aspinal of London wallet, good few years old now but still in very good condition. Mine is the leather with snake skin inside.

My solution is to copy my children – all cards in Android Pay and spare £10/£20 in my phone case.

iClip superb holds plenty of cards and notes without being pointlessly bulky.

I’d like a new wallet, but I do wonder how much longer it’ll actually be necessary to carry one. Mine suffered from bloat also, I periodically have a clear-out.

Less and less seems to make it back in these days. I have several credit / debit cards but only ever really use one of them, and even that’s shifted onto my phone now with contactless payment on the phone. A wodge of store cards (coffee shop loyalty cards, Tesco Clubcard etc) are mostly all in an app now (StoCard FTW). There’s not much else to carry, driving licence (optional to have with you but handy), donor card, maybe a couple of tenners for the rare occurrence where a shop still doesn’t take cards or have a minimum spend.

I’ve never put change in a wallet because I have pockets, if I end up with a fistful of the stuff then it goes into a change jar when I get home. Pound coins get set aside for taxis, pub quiz entry and the like. The rest I’ll just grab a handful before going to the supermarket and part-pay with it on a self-service till before contactlessing the balance. The sooner I don’t have to carry cash at all, the better.

4 cards, with an occasional extra. Easily fits a few folded twenties in the outside pocket. Super slim, great quality, getting a very lovely patina.

I was given a Secrid Miniwallet in the summer, and like it. It’s fairly compact. I don’t tend to carry coins so that’s not a problem. It feels nice in the hand. I was tempted by their basic cardholder, but the addition of the wallet part adds note capacity and an extra 2 cards.

@cougar x2 for Stocard, just a shame it doesn’t work for everything (looking at you Nectar and Boots) thanks to scanners that can’t read the barcodes. Did have an amusing moment in Boots where I was told I was violating data protection using it 😛

But what it does work for it does well.

Couch Guitar Straps. Made from vintage vinyl from car interiors etc, all vegan. Not too expensive, though postage costs and import fees may add a bit. Just check the sizes of them – some are designed for US banknotes, so a bit narrow for UK money.

I second Aspinall mine is a folding card holder wallet. Takes six cards, one side is a photo ID window for my work pass. Will keep notes if you place half into a pocket and then fold.

Mine has survived being left in rain all night, eaten by a puppy and lost and returned (with cash still inside) via the police.

I’d buy another in an instant. Fortunately, despite my best efforts, I have not had to.

I’ve always lived by if a wallet costs more than a tenner then it’s not worth it. I got a wallet from next 10 years ago for £5 and it’s still going strong.

Mine was a freebie when I joined my first company post Uni (Nortel Networks). Still using it over 25 years later…
