We’re getting fibre installed on the 30th by BT, all arranged, confirmation emails, etc.

Then this morning I get a text purporting to be from Openreach saying that the appt is scheduled for the 29th. Bit of a panic as no-one will be home that day.
Seems legit, as they know my mobile number, postcode, the date of installation (well, one day off) and the fact I’m having it installed.

Message said to reply ‘Comfirm’ if I was happy or to reply to the text if there was a problem. I stupidly replied, though just saying the 29th was no good and to please check the order as it was for the 30th.

Had a reply saying ‘Ok, BT will contact you.’

Check email, yes it’s the 30th.
Ring BT, and they check their records and Openreach’s system, they’re both showing the 30th, and nothing has changed as far as they know.

I’m a bit confused as to who/what/why this text has come to me.
How would a scammer know my details, and the fact I’m having fibre installed, and what could possibly be the actual scam – if it is one?!

Worried now that some random person knows no-one will be home on the 29th!

    Could just be a glitch?

In my experience BT won’t show up on any day

what number did the texts come from? When I had a line installed last year, the (legit!) texts came from 07800 008118.

More likely to be BT/Openreach process incompetence rather than a scam.

Having said that, if scammers get lucky they can get you when you are expecting legit messages. I got the royal mail scam text today about unable to deliver a parcel. I am expecting a parcel and I did pop out at lunchtime when I know the postie came round. That coincidence made me more vulnerable to falling for it. I didn’t, but you can see how people make mistakes.
