    Lapdog, that’s very nice.
Thinking of selling my B&R123GMT to make room for something similar…

Thanks. I tend to find myself often gravitating to Panerai when I look at watches. They really appeal to me – the simplicity, design, big size, interesting history….
They are costly though. I paid for it partly out of an insurance payout i got when I was diagnosed with cancer. I promised myself I would buy myself a nice watch if I beat it. Cancer is now undetectable thank god!! so I have this momento on my wrist as a positive happy memory of the successful battle (at the moment….).

Congratulations on all counts; thread-winning watch to boot 🙂

Loved you in Logan by the way.

    Wow! Fabulous results!

I like the simplicity but think they would be too large for me. I perhaps ought to try one on though before making such a comment!

    lovely swelper. manual wind?

Thanks. The pic is not the actual watch but near as damn it. Yes it’s a Seamaster 600 601 movement, probably the best movement Omega made in my opinion, manual wind.

It’s circa 1964/65 which has been restored with new face (crosshairs version), hands and dial. I bought it with original dial and had a new one fittted, serviced etc. Love it’s Simplicity.

Not as dear as one would think. £850 which is well worth it.

Great news and nice watch Lapdog, we had a guy come in to work to give health and safety training wearing a Panerai…made me think it might be a profession worth going in to!

    @Swelper
, sweet! and good price, from Chrono24?

Dream watch is currently a Speedmaster Mark 2, but a nice vintage Omega would kill the urge until my 40th…

Got it from eBay nearly £400 then the mods and service which cost nearly the same. Will last past my lifetime for sure.

Check out eBay there’s plenty there, caution check the serial number and validate for authenticity.

I also have a pre Bond Seamaster for everyday use. That’s a nice watch still looks fresh could do with new pins in the strap though.

Cool, I’ll have a look, always a bit scared of buying a decent fake.

I get what your saying I was the same. Always look at the watch opened up to see the movement with a clear serial number.

There are a few on eBay I trust and always uk based. A good seller will give the serial number quickly

LTL;FTC: how easy is it to resize a seiko watch bracelet? I’ve watched (sorry) a couple of YouTube videos and it looks a bit fiddly and kinda easy to slip and take a gouge out… the ‘specialist’ tools on Amazon all look a bit crap.

However, I have picked up a bergeon spring bar tool… 🤪

Or should I just go get it done properly at a jewellers?

@Metalheart – do the case lugs have little holes on the outside! Those make the job very easy, just poke a pin into the hole and push the spring bar out, otherwise the bergeon tool should work perfectly.
There isn’t much that can go wrong, really, just take your time and be methodical.
Ive had the back off my Seiko SPORK and adjusted the time, which really does require a steady hand, but sorting a bracelet is pretty easy.

Has anyone seen the ‘Just One More Watch’ videos on YouTube? Jody is really informative and knows his stuff. The level of production is really good. I like that he gives as much consideration and objectivity to a £20 Aliexpress special as a £1000 Oris.

Yeah, his videos are always worth a watch.

Actually makes better reading than the usual reviews of Tudors/Rolexes etc., at least theres something slightly different to talk about.

Yeah been watching JOMW for a while. I do like when he throws up some interesting GearBest options and nice to see alternatives to Subby’s. Man loves a bit of lume eh?

So this happened at the weekend:

I was aiming to try get one around Oct/Nov time to celebrate my 30th – but would have liked to have tried one on before then as I’ve never actually held an Explorer. We checked about 7 ADs across Japan a few weeks ago while on holiday, been through every AD on New Bond St, Regent St before that, etc etc… no luck

Anyway – we were in Harrods to buy for my Mrs birthday. I popped to the Rolex AD and they had one in stock. I tried it on but decided to ultimately pass as it was a few months earlier than I was planning on buying.

We then popped to Selfridges later on – I jokingly said “Let’s check Rolex here – if they have one in stock here, then it’s clearly a sign and I should buy it.”

    Well…

    That is lovely Plyphon.

They look so much better sans date and that awful convex lens.

    Enjoy.

    Thats nice Plython!

So, here’s a question thats being thrashed round a circle of friends.  If you’re going on a “posh” holiday and assuming you only want to take one good looking watch, which watch do you take?  There may be a few cocktail parties (nice watch), and a few trips around the destination (tool watch) but also it needs to go in an out of the pool and be “casual but look good”.

Friend that asking was looking at a £260 Tissot with Blue face and brown leather, until it was pointed out that the leather vs pool wouldn’t be great, now he’s stumped.  This one:

Image result for tissot watch blue face

And then after the leather/pool conversation, this:

Hugo Boss 1513478 Men's Chronograph Silver Quartz Watch

    Hugo Boss!

Any other recommendations around the £250 mark?  Surely there’s something better…

£250 for a watch on a posh holiday which can go in the pool? I wouldn’t go in the pool with one of those – no screw down pushers. Also ‘BOSS’ does not really fit with ‘posh holiday’ from what I can see. How about an Apple Watch? I can’t think of a conventional watch which would work at that price point.

Kryton, I think my answer would be an Orient Mako or even a Seiko SKX on a Nato strap, but then swap to a leather strap for the evening.
Solid enough for the pool and looks good on a leather trap for the evening.
    Something like this:

Interesting becuase I use my SNDA57 for everything else and (recently) pack my Eco Drive (AT4008-51E) for the glitterati requirements.  I can’t stand the thought that the Tag wedding present or the more recent Prospex gets lost with a suitcase or is rattling around in hand luggage.

Personally I don’t think there’s too many proper horologists at a cocktail party, just the materialists looking for the words “Rolex” or “Omega”…

But you made me look at the Orients.   I agree, a Mako 2 in Pepsi is nice:

Orient Mako II SAA02009D3 Automatic 200M Japan Made Men's Watch

Or a Mako 3 in this colour looks OK:

Orient Mako III RA-AA0005B19B Automatic 200M Men's Watch

I ordered 3 watches on Saturday. 2 vintage Russians from Ebay and a so called Chinese dollar dazzler from Aliexpress.

One Russian is an 80’s digital Elektronika 52.

Second Russian is a 70’s or 80’s Raketa.

The Chinese watch is a black dialed dressy Pagani Design chronometer as revised by JOMW.

There is a ‘baselworld rumor’ type photoshop photo of a white dial explorer out there somewhere and it does look fantastic indeed.

I’m strictly black dial watches only, though!!

Bracelet re-sized (as advised it was pretty easy. Might need a fettle of the micro adjust but I’ll try and see first).

Bought off the web from Lowry Jewellers at 30% off!

I ordered the strap version first which turned up with some minor cosmetic damage which had occured in transit. When I spotted it I checked the website to find they had the bracelet version cheaper than I’d paid for the strap version. A couple of (very polite) emails and they sent me a pre-paid return thingy and yesterday the replacement turned up (and the difference refunded!). Really impressed with their service (and price).

    It’s just the standard finish.

I’d just finished the Loch Ness 360 so the gold hue is just probably reflections off my red face… 😬

Good thing I never go on ‘posh’ holidays, or get invited to any cocktail parties that might occur, ‘cos I’d probably only take one watch, it would likely be the one that’s going to draw the least attention from anyone who might like to relieve me of it, and the one that’s least likely to get damaged in any way, so probably my £70 Casio with NATO strap adaptors, or possibly my Yokobies-mod Seiko 5 with Zulu strap, which is what I’m wearing right now

Not posh, but it fulfils the primary function of a watch – to tell the time in a clear and concise fashion. I try to avoid complications…

Keep getting drawn to this, under £200 and looks good to me. A leather strap would look even better too.
