It’s happening! Well done to everyone who submitted evidence.

You have to feel for the local busy body who spent the last twelve years challenging mountain bikers and bombarding the National Trust with letters and emails.. They dismissed his ‘actions’ 😂

On the contrary, it is precisely because of his actions, and the NT’s response to them (the sign), that the application for upgrading was lodged. Remember to thank him next time you see him, he’s helped improve the official Borrowdale Bash immensely.

Mr Richold must be fit though, walking it 3 times a week. Honestly; living up here and having spent a lifetime in the hills, even before the land reform, I can’t get round your access laws. But we’ll done to the NT and the folk who campaigned for it.

A slightly side point, but having ridden it on the weekend again there are now two or three places where people have deviated off the rocky bridleway (especially around the traverse to castle crags) and ‘motored’ their way up through fresh bracken to take an easy line (requiring no bike lifting) making it look like a load of motocrossers had been through.

I know this is one of the only lakes rides you can take your electric things on, but this is exactly the kind of thing that will have the NT crack down on it.
