    It’s that time again.

    The Weekend Ride Picture Thread.

    Ride your bike.

    Take a few pictures.

Post them up with a few words about the ride.

Here’s mine to kick things off.

Minus 5 when I set out at 10.00 but warming to a balmy minus 1 at the finish.

Still can’t seem to shake off the last of this manflu so took the Ebike out.

Glad I did as it was pretty heavy going with frozen snow and death ice on the first hill I went to.

Moved on to the other side of the valley from there where it was much easier going.

Went for a local bimble. Pentlands looked very appealing but I thought ice levels may be deadly so took the safer option. Rode some stuff I haven’t done before and visited a new to me bakers. Very nice Bridie. It was cold enough to wheel out the ancient but very toasty Ground Effect fleece.

Stu is that Yair? I’m meeting a mate on Sunday and wondering which bit of the valley has the least ice.

Gala hill seems to be the most ice free place ATM.

    I may try Yair tomorrow.

I think all the trails on the Raelees side should be clear but i’ve not been over since the last snow.

The frost allowed me to access some trails which normally need dry weather. Although they were still soft in places

The photos show the sun. Some of the trails were at least slightly more exciting

Lovely sub zero ride in Shropshire and amazingly, the dirt jumps were running really well. Once I had got over my initial fear of an icy disaster anyway 🙂

40 miles around Thetford Forest today…early start meant temperatures around -5 Degrees, but riding conditions were perfect

Been waiting for a low-mud opportunity to get a first ride on my new Cube Stereo without getting it completely clarted up. (Mostly) Frozen ground was just the job. A local bimble over to the trails at Newbold Comyn (Leamington Spa) gave some time for me to get used to the whole 29er thing (first timer!), with a bit of suspension tweaking thrown in for good measure. Nice return along the canal. So far, so good…

Bloody cold this morning, took ages to clear the ice off the inside of the van windscreen. Lowest figure was -5⁰ driving to the forest.

I think I was the first out, I had the pleasure of breaking the ice on all the puddles as I made my way round.

Just a 10 mile hourish long ride as it was bitterly cold, but the forest was genuinely beautiful today. I could have taken so many more photos, but they never look as good as what the eye can see and I didn’t want to keep taking off my gloves!

No time for anything epic today so I cheated a bit, train to Dunblane, cycle paths to Callander and then up and over Glen Artney and through Findhuglen and down to Braco, basically the good bits that I didn’t manage on last weekend’s ride.

Brilliant fun with spiked tyres, I was riding along lots of frozen solid ruts full of water using the ice in preference to the tussocky soft snowy grass either side.

Croghan mountain – got too icy to go far (25km), too cloudy to see far either.

Tore the sidewall on the dissector last week so dug out the summer Ground Control, it’s a much better tyre than I remember.

Just had a scalding 20 mins shower and currently cooking snags and making a pot of coffee for a lazy family free afternoon/evening.

I have a set of 26″ of icespiker pro I might fit to the old 456ebb for a laugh tomorrow.

Managed to get out for 3 hours this morning. Out on the trails N/NW Leeds and up on to Otley Chevin. Progressively more snow/ice the further I went. Absolutely stunning day!

Don’t normally like riding in the snow, but the weather was too nice not too. Turns out it was just the right amount for me. Lots of grip, gorgeous scenery, and fun frozen trails. Bosley Cloud ‘The Cloud’, Congleton. Ibis Ripmo AF, Canon M6 MkII EF-M 22m f2.0.

Absolutely glorious morning on the Ditchling ridge. Grippy snow still, and my rear fastrak at 20psi was excellent 20250111_10522420250111_12115620250111_11203720250111_10492420250111_105604

Got out early enough that everything was still frozen solid. Bike returned to its hook afterwards no dirtier than when it left. Chilterns trails will not be so kind in a few days. PXL_20250111_092650565PXL_20250111_093256457~2

Frozen local. Snow long gone, but trails nearly 100% frozen. As opposed to Thursday night when it was a more disappointing 50% 😉

No bike cleaning either. I used to ride in the Chilterns @mtbfix – Singlespeed and stiff upper lip from Nov to March. Horrendous mud and clay from memory!

@rocketdog- looks a lot better as a mullet!

100% agree on the paint. Rode mine once in the mud and it came back pretty much as a polished paint free frame.

Oh and my wife said “why is Frank Skinner” building a bike when she heard your dulcet tones from my laptop speakers 🙂

Arrived home to Belfast late last night after a week away with work. No lovely grippy, frozen, dry trails to be seen. I can safely say that’s the muddiest ride of my life! (Still great to be out on the bike though!)

First ride since catching the lurgy on Xmas day. Very cold and fresh but wonderful views from a ridge seldom ridden. To be fair the amount of bog up there in places it needs to be frozen solid to be enjoyable. Great ride, just what I needed.

I am paranoid about riding on ice (cracked a rib once) so just a walk for me, lovely out – could barely stay upright even walking though.

    Love all the snowy photos!

Just rain and mud here. Went out for a wet and wild ride on Saturday with Reeksy1. Lots of rocks and roots… And a front wheel slip out for the lad resulting in Rock 1 Thigh 0 so we finished early. Before that though I got a snap of him struggling to push up “The impossible hill”

    IMG_9447

Then today we had a little test of the backyard dirt jump where I found a very cool beetle. Reeksy2 in the background.

A balmy 8°c in Pembrokeshire for a muddy lap of Llys y Fran reservoir – out only real purpose built trails in the county. A little bit of everything to entertain for an hour or two.

Great pics as ever. That second one of yours @jimmy748 is fab.

No riding today, trail maintenance. Digging out the main climb in our local woods. It’s always a big effort and there’s never enough time to do the whole thing, but it’s going to make a lot of riders happy next week!
