A friend has lent me a Garmin 800 with a view to trying it out / buying it off him.

He’s left on it several courses (.FIT files) for me to try out the navigation.

Is there any way to view these files? (i.e. to see the routes on a map)
Im not having any joy trying to upload them to Strava / Connect as they’re not ‘activities’.

    Cheers,

I think you can view them on Garmin Basecamp.

Thanks Mike, obviously my google skills need improving!

Still having problems viewing with that, but suspect it may be an issue with the files, will have a play around.

You can upload fit files to bikehike.co.uk course creator. Then view them on OS map and save as tcx/gpx etc if you want to.

Usually they upload to Connect via manual import under Activities, but I guess they could be routes instead. Connect I think handles these under Routes or something but last time I tried to create a route I ended up using Basecamp and think I got it into Connect somehow as a route but it wasn’t much use. It kept trying to sync it to the Garmin but failed every time. Basecamp on the other hand will transfer it to the Garmin directly.
