Not overly familiar with VAT rules on vehicles so hopefully someone can help.

If i purchase a pre-reg UK vehicle to export which has VAT included can I reclaim the VAT ? Not UK tax-resident or VAT registered.

Yes but you need to look up the requirements, in law essentially the same as a non EU tourist buying stuff in Oxford Steet and then claiming VAT back on their way home

I assume it is a new vehicle. If under second hand goods scheme you will not

Thanks – hmm it has to be pre-registered so would probably be second hand which would mean no VAT refund. Bo-lax.

You just need to ask whether they are applying a second hand goods scheme to it, which I doubt, which involves only charging VAT on the margin. In fact the simplest question is how much VAT will be charged on the invoice, if this is 20% then you will be able to reclaim.

search vat on exports from UK outside the eu for procedures to reclaim. You should get some result from hmrc, the uk taxing authorities.
