There are some sweet swimming spots in Keld so picnic and a paddle?, just ask a local for directions, the weather is lush at the moment up there

There is a farm that you can visit on the road between Reeth and Gunnerside that is really great for kids, or head over to Hawes and visit the cheese factory in Wensleydale. Loads of nice footpaths as well for a stroll. Maybe visit TanHill pub or the CB Inn in Langthwaite for some nice food. Richmond Castle is worth a visit, ‘The Station’ is a worth a trip for snack, coffee and see a film, and the Georgian Theatre is a novelty, though not sure if its much use with a 4 year old?

If you’re of the twig-bearded persuasion, there’s a folk festival in Hardraw this weekend, just a short hop over into the next Dale.

Good walk that would be interesting enough for a little un from Gunner side along Gunnerside Gill through the woods by the river. If you go far enough you can picnic by the old mine buildings, see the tunnel into the hill side and the old mill waterfalls.

Bolton Castle sometimes has events. The Bowes Museum isn’t far.

The Farmers Arms in Muker is your nearest pub, and a very nice one too. You could drive up to Tan Hill and see the highest pub in England. From Keld, there are some waterfalls just up the road on the RH side (take the turning to Nateby).

The Penine way footpath to Muker / Thwaite is very nice, again passing nice waterfalls.

Lovely place, parents have a cottage in Muker, so know it backwards…

In which case you all need to play the cheese game: all try to see who can eat the most free samples before being asked to leave. Might be a long night with the kids. 🙂

Hawes has a nice market, Cheese shop, Railway museum and working steam train, rope making factory, a few galleries and loads of tea shops….

If you drive over to Hawes, stop at the Buttertubs on the Buttertubs pass and have a look down the gaping Limestone holes.
