Your point is infact spot on. Just get some that are stiff enough and reliable. My friend still beats me and everyone else on a 300 quid bike because he loads fitter!

Actually, the 23mm wide rims ride nice though.

Currently riding on 2 year old Ksyrium Equipes . I currently weigh nearly 15stone and as above have had no problems whatsoever. I paid £220 for mine which at the time included a pair of pro 3s.
With £400, based on my own experience I’d find it hard to look beyond a pair of Ksyrium Elites. Try Merlin.

Or a set of these .. Choice of hubs-11 speed compatible and nice and light.. Mate has a set of the 50mm ones and he’s thrashed them racing/chaingang’s and training .. Still running sweet and he says the braking on swiss stops is pretty good too..

    I’m eyeing up the 38mm 🙂

Sure, they are the 2010 ones though, don’t know how much difference there is:

If you’re looking at factory wheels then get these http://www.cycledivision.co.uk/product-info.php?pid133.html otherwise go handbuilt with a DA9000 hub, dt comp spokes, brass nipples and a decent tubeless ready rim like the H+S or Pacenti SL23 and run them tubeless with the new Ultremo

    i sent mine back…

reviews in CW had CX-Ray spokes, they now use Pillars (they are 1/2 the costs of cx-ray – not saying the pillars are bad just not what was ordered), plus actually these wheels are very similar to lots of other badged engineered wheels using the same bits, kinlin rims, pillar spokes and bitrex hubs and are very simialr to the sub £200 planet-x wheels..

but they were light and the QR levers were nice..

Well I bough some Ksyrium Elites (second Hand) a few weeks ago and i’m very impressed, light, stiff and look good.

I just wanted a reliable pair of wheels though.
