Hi hive mind, daughter has just inherited a laptop with Office 2010.
What is the best way forward that is not Office 365?
Or am I a ludite and get with the programme Grandad.

First glance appears to indicate I need to either blow £120 for each machine in the house (2) or pay £60 a year. Crikes.

Is she in education? Might be covered by their licence: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/education/products/office

Why not just keep using the installed Office 2010?

Might have to, use a blend of Office 365 (she was covered, thanks Simon_g) and old school 2010.

Does her school/college use MS office for there accounts? If so, there a chance she has the ability to download/install it for free already.

Microsoft Office Student for the one off licence is what we used for our daughter. Think it was less than £20

I used Office 2007 until recently when I went 365.

The only significant difference is that everything seems to be slower in 365, but I have taken advantage of the OneDrive, and also a tidy-up of my directories so I guess that’s quits.

How often does she use it? Microsoft Office Online is free.

If you need a standalone local app there’s always Libre Office.
