Got a stick caught in drivetrain last night, broke the mech hanger but mangled the cage of my X9 mech at the same time. Good news is I had everything necessary for a trailside single speed conversion and finished the first dry ride in months.

I’m now trying to figue out the repair plan. I have a few optons

    1) new mech, about £60 online. Galling as this one was only fitted at Christmas.

    2) cage kit from fisher outdoor, £44. That’s practically the price of a complete new mech after vouchers and cashback.

    3) I have an X9 non clutch mech that this replaced. Are the cages interchangeable?

    4) hammer/bend cage plates back in to shape. Will I die?

    Thanks all!

Take the cage off and straighten it – done this a couple of times on my original alloy XO cage. Use a piece of glass/window to guage whether its all in line.
