Having had a nice 11 year lay off from racing except about 3 rides, this year I make a comeback, just a little more fettling to do 🙂

I’ve been trying to get a mate to part with his old 70s CCM but he won’t bite.
It’s been sat there doing f all for the last 25 years, a shame

    CCM will be about 8K!!!

Boba,I thought that fella finished the Dakar, at least one year he did.

BR, I have had no knees since 18, I am 46 now, but I have the most massive set of knee braces (for racing in), look like Forest Gump.

Can anyone give advice on my poor standard Roses, they are not at all standard, & don’t look much better than that in the summer.

Bloody hell, that Bultaco brings back some memories.

Not quite as many as a C90 with knobblies would though. Sigh……………

Had a look on the Dakar site and it would appear he withdrew at stage 6 in 2011 and 3 in 2013. Would love to see him finish, nice to see a guy just doing it for the hell of it in his own way.

He must have had a fair few primary chains in his bag for the Dakar.

For a while he had one of the 3 speeders ,it was like driving an auto.

    Stick it in 2nd …BLAP !

Great fun ,this was all in the Vic Allan/Graham Noyce days mind 😉

Wasn’t there a guy regulalry doing the Dakar on a TT500 (or XT)?

I suppose the mental defficiency required to make you want to ride to Dakar through the desert against time limits with no signposts probably goes hand in hand with the same defficiency that makes it seem like a good idea on an unsuitable bike!

Bob Wright used to rant about on a CCM won a few British Champinship races on one. Used to have to land from jumps in 3rd or the engine compression would put you over the bars 😯 Greg Hanson from High Wycome was very handy on one as well. Beautiful machines.

They sell for really silly money as said above.

Long, long ago the original Dakar bikes were just modified XTs.

    Dakar,
If BMW got a boxer to the finish anything is possible!! (did they get on a win with the boxer?)

    That CCM is the buisness.

Arm pump, now theres a thing, I am sure I got some whislt just fettling the Bultaco on Saturday, riding is going to hurt.

I remember as a kid cycling to Leverhulme Park in Bolton to watch the ‘scrambles’ and seeing the CCM’s from just down the road racing there.

    £8000 for a CCM 😯
Perhaps I ought to do something with the 1973 550 with quaife 3 speed box I’ve got hidden away.
I’ve got a Cheney B50 frame and a genuine Victor Grand Prix frame as well.
All accumulated when they were sort of on the border between being obsolete and being collectable.
Too many hobbies, not enough time. 😕

MTG they make really big money, the vintage MX scene seems to be full of some very wealthy people.

There must be so many amazing bits of kit left in the back of garages, would love to find a EMX one day.

Maico only is a site worth checking out for some stunning bits of kit.

    quaife 3 speed box

Thanks Graham, I was trying to remember what that gear box was. 🙂
Seem to remember that that model ,also had a direct spark ( or something like that) ignition, that was a bit pants.

I can almost smell the Castrol R 😆

There’s no alternator. The crankshaft is cut short and the magnesium primary chain case is flat with the footrest mounted directly on it.
The ignition runs off NiCad batteries. OK for a 20 minute MX heat, not so good for a three hour multi lap enduro. 🙂
