    The professional windsurfing association is currently running a competition in Turkmenistan. The president of that country is a keen cyclist and competition winner so I wonder if we can look forward to a TdF stage there?

    It’s definitely a good place for touring – if you head north out of Ashgabat you cross the Karakum desert towards Uzbekistan. Not sure what the visa situation is right now, but if you can do it in 7 days you should be OK…

    Don’t think the roads outside the capital are quite good enough for a Tour stage though, unless they all ride cross bikes…
