  • Tubeless Conversion – Stan’s Tape on Non-Tubeless Rims

In the past I have used Stan’s rim strips on really old wheels, but I am sure I have also done this on some wheels sets going back 10 years plus with just Stan’s yellow tape, and regular tyres. However Stan’s Website says – DON’T DO THIS. Overcautious?

Wheels are Ritchey WCS Alu disc – probably about 7-8 years old (on a Boardman)

    Yea or Nay?

    I say try it.

Before I got UST wheels on both bikes I always used Tesa 4289 tape which is basically a cheaper version of Stan’s. Never tried it with non tubeless tyres though.

Thanks, guys – its not the tyres I’m concerned about though. I have many many non tubeless tyres running this way. It’s is there something about the rim that could be an issue? Again, I don’t think so – I am fairly sure I have done it to other rims older than this which I do not think were designated ‘tubeless’ friendly, but I do not have any to check now.

it sounds like it should work. you are just sealing the rim. 1 inch gorilla tape is working really well for me and its cheap.
