Me and the Mrs are having our annual visit to Scotland early September and have decided on the Wester Ross area and a few days on Harris and Lewis.
can anyone reccommend some one for some guiding or some routes for a few half days up there ?thanks in advance

No need for a guide on Harris, all the trails are waymarked out from Tarbet. Get the south Harris OS 1:25000 and look at the number of paths on it. Great place to MTB, I need to get back.

I can vouch for this one
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=175472&y=849900&z=120&sv=175472,849900&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=694&ax=175472&ay=849900&lm=0 (I did the N branch to Kenmore , the E branch is higher) – you could loop it though

it was so windy (40mph,driving rain) I gave up at Torridon and did this with a tail wind

I went there a couple of years ago. I am not sure many of the routes are half day 😛 Take plenty of food.

We did the Torridon loop (documented in many magazines and the ‘Scotland Wild Trails’ book) and also a loop of Bein Dampf (sp?)

Both were excellent big days out, the descent into Torridon (Annats?) is one of the best I have ever done in the UK but getting there with enough energy was a challenge for my brother!

As for guiding I would think a good place to start is the person in that video of Steve Peat and Danny Mac riding in N. Scotland. On the other hand if you have not been before and can read a map I think you won’t feel like you are missing out with those two routes.

Some discussion a month or so ago – can (as others did) strongly recommend the routs I was taken on:
