- Top ten rides in the uk…
The main Torridon loop has to be in there.
The Liathach loop however, is crap, unless you like pushing over a 3-4 mile boulder field to get to your downhill bit.
Ben Nevis circuit.
Loads in the Lakes.
Even more in Scotland.
EDIT, dunno how I even forgot about Swaledale or the rest of the Dales for that matter!Posted 4 years agoGEDAMember
For old times sake in no order
Porter Clough, blackamoor, graves for top city ride
Buttermere, blacksail, seatoller, honister slates mines for hike a bike.
Cheviots for remoteness and peace, well when they are not having a pretend war anyway.
Ladybower to langsett and back for moorland single track.
Simonside is my local and although I love the descent into Whitefield I would not call it one of the best in the uk. Maybe as I have been doing it for 25 years. OK then as it’s the route that got me into mountain biking, the views are stunning and the descent ace I will call it one of my favourites, with a few local extras of course.Posted 4 years agoFortunateson09Member
I think the best ride I’ve ever done was a shortish loop from Coulags and down to Achnashellach a couple of weeks ago.
A combination of landscape, weather, company, no mechanicals and just having one of those days when you can completely nail every line.
Certainly that Achnashellach descent is without question one of the best bits of trail anywhere in the UK.Posted 4 years agogeeMember
My fave day out from home is the standard Surrey hills epic – near on 100 miles off road. Coul be even further as you can link up all the gorrick venues off road too, but usually I’ve found 100 miles to be enough. I’ve yet to ride anywhere I prefer to the Surrey hills in terms of trails – although I’ve not done much riding elsewhere in an ‘exploring’ sense. Used to do big loops on the NY Moors at Uni, but that was extremely bleak. Most of my riding elsewhere is trail centres or racing.Posted 4 years ago
I would say…
Honister slate mine descent into buttermere – lakesPosted 4 years ago
Devils staircase – glencoe
Horse head moor descent into fox up – dales
Final 2 descents on the marin

Nan bield done to haweswateragentdagnamitMember
England and Wales only, I dont know the riding in Scotland well enough
Not particular order;
1. Mendips to A38, via Rowberrow or Limestone Link from Beacon Batch. Nipping down to Cheddar for coffee.
2. Borrowdale Bash – a cliche, but fun and a good way to see the north Lakes
3. Snowdon, down via Rangers Path
4. Quantocks – taking in Chimney, Great Wood and Lady’s Coombe climb
5. Exmoor, Porlock climbing to Dunkery Beacon, tea in Exford and back over Dunkery and down through Horner or Porlock Wood
6. Messing around in the Wye Valley near Tintern, not so much a route as a number of linked descents. A southern version of the Grizedale forest bridleways.
7. Dartmoor – Lustleigh Cleave, Nutcrackers, Bowermans Nose area
8. Dartmoor – Postbridge and the East moors
9. Leaving my office and riding home via the urban Bristol trails on a summer’s evening
10. Helvellyn – down via Grizedale Tarn
I’ve missed loads of great ones out, including all of the Peaks, Cotswolds, Mid Wales and Brecon Beacons, but those are 10 that came to mind to me. Not necessarily the best, but ones I like and will ride this summer.Posted 4 years agosaxabarMember
Llanberis Slate/Moei Y Ci area (a local loop for me)
Rangers (not sure if this would be a fave if not so close)
Black Mountains/Talgarth (ahh Y Das)
Gap/Talybont area (fond memories of sunnier Easters)
Penmachno (who cares if it is “natural” or not? I do it a lot so it must be a fave, even if not the most epic)
I’ve only ridden around the Purbecks in England, and never Scotland, so my choices are somewhat limited!Posted 4 years agoGaVgAsMember
Helvellyn (the full day route)Posted 4 years ago
Esk Hause to seathwaite farm
Sticks pass to Glennridding, always better if you do it the second time
Boredale Hause to side farm (upper track its nuts)
Scarth gap North to Buttermere (Bad to get too)
Blacksail pass towards Wasedale farm
Great Dun fell road climb (sorry) ( High Pennines)
Little Dunfell off road descent in the right ground conditions (High pennines)
and theres shed loads more in the lakes but highly cheeky..singletrackbikerMember
Cracking route on the North Yorks Moors, was listed in Mtb Pro many years ago. Runs around Goathland, Danby area with lots of climbing & descending & a fair dose of singletrack. Just watch out for the descent that appears to be just a grassy field.Posted 4 years ago
Another NYM route I used to enjoy – top of Clay Bank, up & across to Bloworth Crossing, on to Baysdale & singletrack across moor to Hob Hole, then back up the valley & retrace back to Bloworth, drop through Bransdale & Tripsdale.
Hamsterley – pre-trail centre type routes.
Lake District ride taking in Walna Scar Road, Little Langdale to Elterwater & Loughrigg to Pelter Bridge.
Dales – Gunnerside Gill area.
