Hi, we’re off to France this summer in the bimblebus and were thinking about getting a tomtom but not sure which one to go for. Wondering what others have used and like? Ideally around the £150 mark or less… We do have a recent road atlas that we used with no probs last year but needed more concentration from the passenger so pondering the benefits of sat nags. Thanks!

Garmin nuvi 1490. Really good so far, lifetime map updates, big screen. Can’t fault it 😀

Do you hav e a smartphone?

If yes try it with Satnav app and get a car charger for the phone.

TomTom app, iPhone and car charger does the trick for me.

I have a smartphone but (pardon the dumb question) does it use the data connection to update the maps as you drive along? Would get shafted for data charges if so, otherwise that’s a great idea and one less item to find a home for.

Will see if we can find a garmin to poke at locally, thanks for that suggestion too 🙂

I just bought a Tom Tom XXL off Tesco Direct for £129 reduced from £160. European maps included.

    They might have some left.

Our old Tom Tom One took us all over Europe. Great devices.

Happy with the XXL so far. Nicer than my old Tom Tom.

The iPhone app does not use the data connection. The maps are in the app.
