Sorry I missed it but I was dead after the Lakes ride lovely weather for that.
After 10 days riding every day I was litterally out on my legs. Like bonking but food/gel packs did not help .
My dream of doing the TdF is finally over 😥

Where did you get to in the lakes Johnnie ?

Keswick …..Borrowdale round derwent water and then Blencartha …short drive between the two.
Later one that killed me storming descent though.

Borrowdale edited version, parked at ashness wood, did the route as far as grange then back to ashness via road at the bottom end of derwent, bit short of time due to extended faffage. Then drove upto briar rigg and did blencathra where I amazed myself by finally cleaning all of the climb up to lonscale – that last steep rocky bit normally gets me. Fantastic day for it, good trails and Jonny did rather well tackling Birketts leap and Frith wood without a front brake 🙂

BTW whats the hole in the wall trail?

he just makes up his own names for trails we all use – san marco anyone
PS I thought that only using your backbrake is the perfect ay to tackle step rocky descents …speed is your friend and not being able to stop helps focus the mind as for route picking forget that bit!
Ps all brakes now working 😳

    Hole in't wall
    Ah

Don't san marco make pizzas 🙂

Admittedly making up names might be an idea "that trail wot goes up there" and "that little techy bit near such and such" isn't exactly easy for identifying stuff.

It makes sense really mate. We have names for all the tracks round rivi…

Like you say, makes talking about routes that much easier.

    lowey

    1st one is "Coal Pit"

    2nd one is "San Marino"

    3rd one is "The Quarry"

Not names the pike steps. Open to offers.

Lowey is right with "coalpit" got my bearings wrong.

The Quarry is that the really rocky decent that brings you out at the carpark, if do we call it the Eliminator? ❓

    lowey

The quarry… its the path that runs parallel to sheep house lane down to Belmont. See the arrow ?

I always thought the Eliminator was anoher name for the Ice Cream Run, after they ran the Downhill Eliminator there in 1996.

    Hi

The 'rocky slab descent' is directly from the Pike tower heading south. Not been down to Rivington Barn/Gardens area yet!!

The Quarry? Eliminator? which? (edit – seen Loweys post)
    Cheers.

Your right on both accounts, several names for the ice cream/ elimantor, not done "the quarry" path but seen it from the road as i head towards Blackdog on my left.
I assume you get on it at the end of Georges lane at Sheephouses?

    lowey
    Full Member

Yeah, its a bit boggy, but is a much more preferable ascent / descent than the road, but you might disagree there 😉

Going down towards Belmont its a left turn over a stile one the first tight bend.

By the way, Georges lane where you mean is actually called Old Belmont Road. We call it "piss poor".

Oh and another thing, I dont recall seeing any applications to ride on my Moors from you lot. Bloody cheek!
