okay now this is thick I know………………

but how come say a 32 tooth chainring is physically bigger than a 32 tooth sprocket?

The pitch of the chain is the same on both, so how does it work?

(all this talk of 11 speed and 42 tooth cassettes got me thinking about this…..)

Cassettes are Whitworth, chainrings are AF, I think

Cassettes aren’t really smaller, they’re just further away.

ben – does that mean bikes with long chainstays have higher gears ?!

    (no wonder a tandem needs 2 people 😯 )

Yup, and that’s why BMXs are slow.

BMXs are NOT the same size – I’ve seen one against a real bike and they’re tiny

Again though, the BMX could’ve just been further Away.
