We suspect some thieves have been using these sites to identify potential victims and high-value bikes.”

Right… so no actual evidence of them doing this – just a suspicion?

Still good reason to check your privacy settings and make sure you have a suitably blackout area around your house if the app allows it.

Also beware of taking “new bike in back garden” photos on your phone then posting them to public forums (like this one) – as they may include a GPS position in the EXIF data of the photo!

What he said, there’s an element of correlation and causation. I bet 99.9% of the bikes had black tyres too, are theieves targeting black tyred bikes or is it just a correlation that most high end bikes have black tyres and the owners use STRAVA?

Still sensible to set up the privacy properly though just in case.
