  • The “No! Come back, light!” Weekend Ride Pics Thread 29th/30th Oct

Clocks go back this weekend and with it any change of an after work blast in the light!

It’s the weekend, and it’s going to be 20 degrees down here tomorrow so I’ll be making the most of it!

Got out tonight after work for a quick shakedown of the new bike.

Not worried about the extra weight of those batteries? Does she now tip the scales at 18kg

It’s our wedding anniversary so spending it in the Peak. Rained first thing then the sun came out. Trails were firm but wet and the covering of leaves made the rocks a bit slippy in places. The Beast was covered in pine needles. Lockerbrook was fenced off at the top.
    Rain is forcast for tomorrow

With 500ml of water, tube/CO2, pump and tool, plus a front light I’m almost certain it’s over 18kg. And I couldn’t care less! Climbs every bit as well, if not better than the Jeffsy it replaced.

I’ve ridden potato alley when it’s turned into a river, you get drenched from the bottom up!

Fair play Paul, she’s a tank!

Can confirm, heavy bike is heavy. 18.5kg in that set up 🤣😁

Dalby blue yesterday and today with my 6 yr old, and the 3yr old on the shotgun seat. Fair to say they both loved it!

I dunno, some big hill South of Newbury

Was great being the fastest downhill instead of the slowest

A perfect off road ride on my beautiful Big Bro yesterday, to the pub to meet some friends for dinner. I also got to sit on one of my two favourite benches! 😀

Then back home in the dark, via the free apples bucket. There were so many owls hooting and shouting on the way, it was glorious.

Sometimes all the signs are there if only you take the time to read them.

Ah run out of coffee, instant it is.

    But its only rain.

Hmmm they probably need to be on the bike I was about to go out on. Best sort that.

Ah, the rain means slow traffic so the 45min drive took an hour and ten.

Ohh the parking machine doesn’t like my car, 20 minutes to pay.

Well, finally. I’ll catch up with everyone at the mid point of the ride.

Oh, no I won’t, I won’t even get up the first lump in the fire road.

A very short ride, bouncing off everything, over braking, under committing.

That’ll be fine, it’s only a muddy chute. Yeah don’t use the front brake you fool. Ti’s but a scratch at least.

“shall we have a coffee?” “sort the bikes first”

In the time that took, the cafe closed, two hours earlier than the sign said.

To the pub then, ordered food, everyone else has finished before mine turns up “sorry, the kitchen burnt the first one”

Today has been a day of first world problems. I’m actually scared to go to the pub now.

Big local ride today, further afield but still on mellow stuff. I’m terrible at getting motivated to put the bike on the car and drive for 45-60 mins to go and ride, even if the trails are 10x better…

Oh and it was silly warm, didn’t feel right – the Garmin hit 21 degrees.

A cracker of a day with sunshine and views and a big rock.

I know, right! Felt like this was the last chance to get an all day ride in- so did that and it was great, got in a swim too at Allhallows-on-the-sea on the Hoo Peninsular in Kent

Swam here. The water was ridiculously warm tbh, considering it’s about to be November!

Another 40km gravel social with the Cairngorm Cycle Club today. 4C at valley level when we departed but it soon burnt off for a warm, relatively breeze-free day.

Trails in Leeds have just turned over from being “OK, still” to “slithery & filthy”.

But, a couple of hours yesterday out on the SS HT with a pair of sketchy old Forekaster tyres, was still fun …

I raced GV this weekend at an amazingly dry – even with a pre race downpour – Gorrick course. This was a 1:13 3 lap effort and not my strong point as I’m a 6-12hr endurance specialist, but although I haven’t raced since May due to cancellations, I’d done a lot of vo2max threshold training over the last 8 weeks only to then get a non-covid virus 10 days ago.

So, my legs arent aching because I rode underpowered legs and overrevving from a chest perspective and I suspect a lowly result. However, as always it hurts but now its finished it was very enjoyable to be back in the mix.

Third only and last of the season for me, so now I can crack open the Malbec and watch the F1.

Becoming a bit of a regular at Sherwood Pines. To the DJ Park via the excellent new bermy blue bits, then after a bit of sessioning, a run down the DH and selection of the best of the Red back to the car.

No great pics as the phone went away in the rain

First properly autumnal feeling ride of the year, nicely punctuated by a look around an open air forest photography gallery.
