So.. on the Westworld thread & the old Ghostbusters one from earlier this year, it’s been mentioned that remakes aren’t as good as the original etc.. So… What are the best ones?

3 Classics to start with –

    The Magnificent Seven
    The Thing
    The Fly

BSG, i was skeptical when people kept telling me to watch it, but it is outstanding. Be sure to watch the Miniseries first. Sets the whole thing up.

Sherlock Holmes. Both the Robert Downey Junior films and the Benedict Cumberbatch/Martin Freeman TV series. Far better than stuffy old Basil Rathbone versions.

Dredd – the last one was much better than that Sylvester Stallone one.

Echo and the Bunnymen’s cover of ‘People are Strange’.

But in terms of films/TV, then Christian’s Bale’s first Batman surely beats all previous incarnations.

Daniel Radcliffe. Always thought he was shite and wooden in the Harry Potter films and the worst thing about them. I had assumed he was just a shite actor. However everything I’ve seen him in since he’s been exellent in, to the extent that I’ll now watch things if he’s in them, watched Imperium last night and he was the best thing in it. Looking forward to seeing Swiss Army Man (love Paul Dano too).

Yep. I can’t even do it with the lyrics in front of me.

Also, he was in Slow Club’s video for Beginners before this so I started to like him around then

    House of Cards.

The original was great but Kevin Spacey brings so much depth to the evil and malevolence.

Loved the original b&w and the remake with Miranda Otto and Hugh Laurie was a neatly executed and faithful copy.

Good call on House of Cards. The first played like a pantomime; the second is a much more complex drama.

My standard answer is the Thomas Crowne Affair, the second had much more to it and Rene Russo was fantastic.

    The Omen

Really? It’s a solid remake, but did you think it was an improvement on the original? I thought the original just had a certain little creepy factor the remake couldn’t match.
