Stage winner and race leader both in shoes with lace only fastening!

ZOMG! Don’t they know that you foot changes shape during a ride and so you must have a combination of velcro, ratchets, Boa etc.

Given that every weeken road warrior sportive rider knows this, I’m amazed to see seasoned pros using such outdated technology.

    😉

Or perhaps Giro are throwing money at some riders these days… I seem to remember Wiggins crowing about the awesomeness of Bont not that long ago

I don’t want to rain on the Op’s parade but SKY don’t ride in Rapha gear.

They are constantly tinkering and as far as I’m aware the latest stuff is from a small but specialist material factory in Portugal. Wiggins was also back in his 2012 skinsuit rather than the latest Bioracer(?) skinsuit that Tony Martin etc still use.

On the shoes front, Wiggins experiments (or maybe is paid to ride very short term?) with multiple brands before the main stage race of the season. He has had lots of time with other brands, even unbranded Specialized SWorks, and then has ended up sticking with the Bonts for the main race of the season (eg Le Tour). The laced up Giros are not necessarily better or worse than anything else but they are the latest desirable and marketable thing to make a few pennies from 😉

I think most teams have the same problem these days. Bob Jungels of Trek posted some interesting sunburn pics last year which gave him a grid all over his back.

Eh? Did they remake the 2012 suit with 2014 logos then? They were with Adidas back then so it;s not like they could just update a blank. I also thought Martin only wore Bioracer when riding for Germany; OPQS are wearing Vermarc.

Don’t believe the brand names you see on the clothing 😉 Wiggins has never used a skinsuit made by Adidas although he has ridden ones with the logo on.

The TOC suit looks incredibly similar to the 2012 Portuguese suit (forget the name of the small company- not MOA, Italy like some think) and is certainly different to the rest of team SKY. Zip on front vs zip on the back for starters.

Top guys ride what they feel is best, not necessarily in line with the team sponsor. Lots of the Garmin guys have “dummy” Vector pedals and blacked out SRMS for example… pretty embarrassing you’d have thought for Garmin but I guess most people don’t notice or care

Any idea who’s providing the beards? Much of the pro peleton seem to be sporting them this year.

Never mind the beard, check out Will Routley on his Diamondback!

Quite surprised to see him doing so well, more because of a lack of beard than his Diamondback bike.

Almost – Rapha use a small specialist factory for some of their kit production – the stuff that goes to team sky mostly but some of it (the stuff that comes out of the same unit) is also on sale.

If you watch the Ed Masters Cairns video, they are in fact spreading across the whole of the cycling world and are specially designed air filters. For DH they keep the mud out to free up breathing and in the road world they guide air flow around the face to minimize turbulence 😀
