Hinterland is back tomorrow night (Saturday), usual place BBC4 9.00 pm. This had previously been available on i-Player only some 3 months ago, I did post up about this.

OP, why this: Telly: a welcome return of the spoken Welsh language?
Not trying to be confrontational, just interested.
I agree it’s a great series.

ThePilot – it’s a pleasant language to listen to but importantly it’s acknowledging as well as preserving their culture and heritage.

Well, I guess I’ve got to agree.
I kind of don’t really care but I sometimes think I should more (I’m from South Wales) and I’m glad there’s people who do 🙂

Many years ago I was staying in a hotel near Bridgend and went to reception to complain that there was something wrong with the TV sound on Channel 4 😳

As a Welsh speaker I can’t wait for the latest series of Y Gwyll. I heard that it was originally filmed in Welsh only, then they decided rather than make it just Welsh with subtitles – why not make a bilingual series? So they shot the whole thing in English (not sure how many episodes they’d done at this point) and edited it from there. Makes it more realistic, in my view, because of course in Wales you always get a mix of people who are more comfortable speaking Welsh and others who prefer to speak English.

Many years ago whilst marking pupil’s books I commented ‘Archfarchnad’. Ooops, it translates as ‘supermarket’.

I used to live, work and play in the Hinterland. At times yesterday I was so entranced by the locations that I missed nuances in the plot.

In the latest mag was a feature on the Wayfarer, that took me back not far off 20 years when I rode that on my own and had the Berwyns to myself! Feel lucky to have cycled in some remote parts of Wales.
