Looks like it. Unless they are putting him in an ambulance to help him catch up with the peloton.

    Confirmed that he’s out now.

Bradley Wiggins has climbed into an ambulance and abandoned the Tour de France. It’s not clear if he injured his collarbone, his wrist or his elbow (or all three), but in any case, Wiggins’ Tour challenge is over.

    17:22:32 CEST
Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Cervelo) also went down in the Wiggins crash, but he is chasing back on to the rear of the peloton in the Vinokourov-Leipheimer group.

    17:21:19 CEST
That crash split the peloton, and Alexandre Vinokourov (Astana) and Levi Leipheimer (RadioShack) are among the riders caught behind.

    17:19:48 CEST
Wiggins sits in the ditch on the side of the road, with a sad look of resignation. A gaggle of Sky riders including Edvald Boasson Hagen had waited, but they’ve since set off without their leader. Remi Pauriol (FDJ) is also down, and seated at the roadside.

    17:18:28 CEST
Chris Horner was also one of the riders down in that incident, although he seemed to be getting back on his bike.

    17:17:56 CEST
Wiggins is on his feet, but is moving very gingerly, and he is clutching his left elbow. It looks as though his Tour de France is over.
    39km remaining from 215km

    17:16:43 CEST
Another crash in the peloton. Bradley Wiggins is down and seems to be suffering from a shoulder injury. He’s being examined by the doctor and it’s not looking good for the Briton.

Yup just confirmed he has abandoned

Is he def forced to abandon?

It looks like he has abandoned. But even if not the gap is now so big that any chance of being competitive in the GC is out of the question

16.20 / 32.5km It looks like broken collar bone for Wiggins. He definitely hasn’t got back on his bike and he has abandoned this year’s tour. Massively disappointing for Team Sky and a rider who looked in great form.

Target some stage wins then now or just get some practice leading out Cav for 2013?

    Suspected broken collar bone.

Have Sky got any climbers in the team? I’d love to see them now focus on Geraint Thomas for GC, or the white jersey at least. If not EBH for some stage wins I guess.

I’m upset. I was really looking forward to watching Wiggo in the hills. Poor bugger, he was doing so well too.

    Really sucks.

Cav gets the points at the sprint, now to get reformed for the finish..

Oh please do be quiet. Are you anywhere near any form of professional athletic standard?

Have you ever even played footy?

90 mins of even lower league footy would probbly destroy you. 90 mins of professional footy would destroy a pro cyclist; totally different physical requirements.

Cav is doing his best to bring footy style petulance to pro cycling though…

Will you give it a rest Elf? Cav is a young lad with a motormouth that he tries to control. NOT THAT DIFFERENT TO SOMEONE SITTING NOT A MILLION MILES FROM THIS THREAD! This is ok, we all have our quirks, but we like people anyway 🙂

You don’t like him, fine, some of us do (after having listened and read about him) so change the record!

Not now but 24yrs ago I was a schoolboy signing for Dundee FC. Then led Scottish infantry soldiers to war.

With Brad gone British GC hopes are being carried by Emma P. She’s 2nd in the women’s Giro with a MTF and TT to go.

So what? So, not at any professional standard then.

    So be quiet.

Gutted for Brad, he was looking on form this year and seemed to have a positive mental attitude. Maybe he can rest up and look to getting back on form for the Vuelta now.

mcboo – ask Aaron Ramsey if he’s a mincing footballer or many of the others who have broken legs etc playing football! Yes you hate football but lots of football people hate boys who ride “pushbikes” so just enjoy your own sport. I like apples too – and pears and oranges and strawberries and peaches 🙄
