but logic would say that water might make a stronger bond between the road and tyre, acting almost as a glue. But I'm not certain.

Until they cross a white line or a man hole cover, when they will crash

Yes, but thats all about sideways friction between the road and tyre, which the water reduces. Then it acts as a lubricant.

Between the tyre and road I think it acts like a glue.

Imagine when you get a glass and put it on a coaster. If the coaster is wet, then the glass will slide easier over the coaster. But when you pick the glass up, the wet coaster comes up with it as well.

However, I may be wrong. I'm only a physics student at college. Anyone a proper physicist? Would be interested to see how wrong I am.. 😀

    Just to simplify

No white lines, no man holes covers, nothing but straight smooth tarmac

Can you go quicker when it's wet? no rain, just a wet road

And just to confuse, falling rain i ssupect will increase the density of the air, but it will also cool the muscles, so one one hand you slow and the other you go faster. Cooler more dense air has a higher oxygen content, etc.

I reckon slower. extra resisitance becuase of having to move water out of the way.

I'm no physicist, willing to bet good money my theory's a load of arse… 🙂

that's why I said no rain – I thought it may interfere

RealMan – your glass on a mat theory is more about surface tension and creating an airlock than 'glue'. Water will slow you down – surface tension to overcome, resistance of wheel through standing water, increased mass of wet tyre etc etc etc… that's the phsical side… then you've got the biophysical side of riders getting cold, muscles getting cold, and then the pshycological side of riders heads getting cold/unpleasant/demoralised etc…

Looks like Scott have got their act together since the Giro and have actually got some TT bikes the columbia lads want to ride, although Kirchen is still on one of last years giants.

Ugly bike contest, Giant v Specialized.

Wiggo's next, let see how much he can pull back. He needs a fair bit as i see the Schlecks attacking like crazy on Ventoux.

I know someone said the course was easy, but…, Cancellara averaged 63.5kmph for the last 12km….

HOW elliptical are Wiggins's chainrings? I thought my telly was on the blink.

Cervelo have been running silly shaped chainrings all season. Give it a year or so and we will be again probably.

lance and Kloden were both down on Wiggins. i don't see the Schlecks making any time. That leaves Contador.

Yeah and I'll bet that they'll suddenly start riding faster – just like they would do in the movies 🙂

    to get round the UCI's max 3:1 ratio individual element rule. A 3:1 "fork" + 3:1 headtube = a very aerodynamic 6:1.
obviously I don't have the exact measurements to hand…

Sastre was using the Rotor rings last year. They have a stand at most races in Madrid, well the factory is just down the road. I know a local racer who user them. Quite a few people have been using on MTBs, by all accounts the first model had some problems.

Hats off to Lance, a good show.
Hats off to Bradley a better show.

    Vamos Alberto… Va! Va! Va!

Contador is truly unbelievable, what a rider. I reckon he is the all time best.

I hope Wiggins beats Armstrong to take 2nd.

    This article?!! Holy cow!!

S unday 19 July, during the climb to Verbier, Alberto Contador has established a speed record: he walked the 8.5 km climb (7.5% average slope) in 20 min 55. Not a rider of the Tour had risen so quickly. Comment expliquer une telle performance ? How to explain such a performance? According to the latest data published by the former Festina trainer and specialist in performance, Antoine Vayer, in Libération, the Spanish rider would have required a VO2 max (maximal oxygen consumption) of 99.5 ml / min / kg to produce the effort.

To my knowledge, this is a figure that has never been achieved by any athlete in any sport. It is like a beautiful Mercedes leaving a lounge car was aligned on a Formula 1 circuit and won the race. Il ya quelque chose qui cloche. There is something wrong. It would be interesting to know what's under the hood. A rider traveling at the clear water can reach the speed of ascent and power output in Verbier? Peut-être. Maybe. If the studies conducted by Antoine Vayer is correct, then Alberto Contador is the first human being to reach such a level of performance. '

that is the one, the figures, are truely astounding, Contador is on another planet! I hope he is a freak! and there is nothing else going on.
