You could adapt the frame with a completely new one 😉

if you have internal bearing headset then yes….made by cane creek

    linky…

uses an external cup that presses into the bottom races as the internal diameter is big enough. On standard headtubes it’s not possible however!

I have one for sale but we are talking internal not std or semi-integrated – lower cane creek 1.5 to 1 1/8th reducer – brand new!

However if it is press in Hope do a semi-integrated stepdown if that’s what your after?

As above you need an OS headtube?

Thanks for all that – I was just purely interested at what is out there!

So let me get this right – if you have an internal headset (like on Scott, for example), then you just tap out existing headset race, and then press in the Cane Creek cup, and hey presto, you can run a tapered frok?

A tapered fork won’t work in a non-tapered head tube but vice-versa will.

3 types of headset: Std, semi-integrated(zero stack) and internal.

    STD – press fit cups
Semi-integrated – lower stack press fit cups
Internal (integrated) – bearings just sit inside frames

Most MTBs have the top 2 and yes if they are semi-integrated (if that is your setup) the bottom cup can be removed and a 1.5″ fitted for a taper 🙂

A tapered fork won’t work in a non-tapered head tube but vice-versa will

Not quite true – if you have an OS straight head tube you can run a 1 1/8 straight or a 1 1/8 to 1.5 taper

Ah yeah I forgot OS as none of my bikes have one. Good point there foxy.
