I’ve been pondering my Hope BSA30 bottom bracket which comes with S71806 angular contact bearings. 61806 deep groove bearings would fit and plenty of other bottom brackets run in deep groove including the Hope BSA24 bottom bracket.

Anyone else tried it or have any thoughts on it?

I thought the OD for hope BSA24 bearings was 37mm.

You need angular contact bearings where there’s a high axial load and for the average BB this isn’t really a consideration.

Ask Hope if there’s a reason; if you stick with AC bearings then make sure that they’re installed the right way around 😉

Weren’t deep groove bearings out of favour due to the necessary insertion groove wearing bearings out over time?

Totally agree that the axial demands of a vitto bracket don’t seem to justify an ACB. I’ve decided to try some FAG 2RSR. I’ve found a suggestion that INA and FAG are generally considered to be better at sealing at the cost of a little extra friction, but that radial bearings are generally better sealed and lower friction than ACB. Price worked out about the same. Guess it can’t hurt to try.
The other plus is that industry bearings seem to come with tighter tolerance than “bike” bearings.

Unless you know their ABEC, this is just guesswork.

I’ve ordered CN. Seems the “norm” for Enduro is C3 although they typically rate by the ABEC standard with doesn’t really earn much respect against ISO, DIN etc
