Cheeky, yes, but check strava for the ard rock enduro route.

No swaledale ride is complete without doing fremington edge

Cheers, looking to do the classic gunnerside gill at some point, is the best route pretty obvious. The Ard rock stuff looks ace, would love a bit of that action.

Get yourself along to Dales Bike Centre. They will help you out with route ideas, and the cafe is a great place to fuel up before you head out. Happy riding.

Have a chat to them at the bike shop

Ard Rock trails are definitely ‘cheeky’ and from hearsay – farmers with shotguns aren’t happy with mountain bikes unless they’re getting paid for the use of their land.

However – I’m not one to advocate sticking to the rules especially when Ard Rock TT route down Fremington Edge will still be more than visible 😉

Well I suppose the best way to scupper the Ard Rock in future years is to ride the route when you are not supposed to. I don’t think Stu at Dales Bike Centre would be best pleased.

Anyway apart from Fremington and Gunnerside have a look round Arkengarthdale, Great Pinseat and, to the South of Reeth, Harkerside and Apedale.

20th century? They are actually quite civilised up there. Internet and everything – look for “Yorkshire Shepherdess” on Twitter (@AmandaOwen8). It’s a great place though and must be amazing for the kids to grow up there. Anyway, eggs. Buy some eggs. Or book a night in the Shepherd’s Hut. Brilliant breakfast.

Fergal – Good call heading our way for half term, there’s loads of riding as pointed out. Call in and we’ll keep you right as to whats good to ride, we’ve route maps in’t bikeshop and we can mark up some ace alternatives.

Regarding Ardrock Enduro and Time Trial route – Please please please don’t ride the timed special stages and the route as a whole. We’ve a real good relationship built up with landowners, farmers and keepers to be able to race these stages. They’ve gone out of there way to help us with these events over the last few years, it wouldn’t take many pillocks to sour that. Thing is there is so much riding around here folks and we’ll happily point you to it.

Time to dash, got to go and see one of those farmers who is also a good friend as a gate was left open during yesterdays Ardrock Time Trial! Unfortunatley sheep got out and mixed up with some others making a load of work for him today sorting that mess. Hopefully he’s going to be alright about but it won’t have been appreciated that’s for sure.

Agreed there’s some ACE lines in Gunnerside Gill that are all bridleways, great to ride, stunningy landscapes and well worth heading to. Fremington Edge climb is a fair lung buster and the descent off Fell End through quarry is class!

    Cheers Folks
