Im based in dorking and haven’t been too impressed with the spannering skills of the obvious local options.

Who has the best bike mechanics in the area, real attention to detail and getting the bike running super sweet and silent – ideally both Road and MTB but I would take a recommendation for each.

not just ‘I take my bike to … for a service and its fine’

Avoid East Street Cycles, I’ve found their work to be a bit variable.

I’ve never had any issues with Head for the Hills but clearly you have. Otherwise maybe try the Purple Bike Shed; I used him about 6 or so years back and liked what he did.

I’ve always found East Steet Cycles really helpful and had no problems with their quality of work. Likewise, Cycleworks in Guildford.

Thanks for the compliment Pete! 🙂

We’re not in Surrey though, The Bike Company in Staines, and to be fair I’m not the main mechanic but Martyn is very good, he knows his stuff.

For the record, East Street turned me down for a job last November. I’ve always found them very good personally. Not that I ever use bike shops for their mechanical services you understand…. 😉

Cycleworks in Leatherhead, or C & N in Redhill have been fine by me on mountain bikes.

    Rowan at Nirvana

Been using them for 6 years since I started riding “seriously”. There have been times when I’ve spent more than I was expecting (just another little upgrade) and time when I’ve sent much less. Always got great advice there and you can join Rowan or Simon (owner with his wife Jackie) on a shop ride.

Also if you want to “give something back” to a group who’ve done a huge amount to develop mtb riding and the trails in the area then spend some money in the shop.

Chris from B-Spoke bikes is excellent – he does mainly road bikes but I think he will do MTB too chris@bspokebikes.co.uk
