you can’t go over the top celebrating, it allgot out of hand when players started carrying props (such as pens and paper to give the defenders their autograph after scoring) so the league cracked down on it

When a ref sees an offence they throw a flag -rather than stopping the game immediately- and deal with it once the ball is dead.

There are lots of umpires (headed up by one referee) watching the plays. If they see anything wrong, they throw a yellow flag. Because yardage is so crucial in AF, the main penalties will be moving them back.

Quite funny sometimes when you see four or five flags flying in on a play.
