My protective chainsaw boots gave up the ghost today. I don’t have a load of spare cash for a new set at the minute. I do however have a set of steel toe Muck boots.I wouldn’t use them with the saw as zero protection. So I was wondering if you can get a sock made from the material that chokes the saw in the advent of a slip etc?

I’ve those Yukon boots. They are ok, very stiff sole so not super comfy but I’ve worn them for 3-4 hours ok. They are pretty cheap and iirc were class 2 protection (the higher chain speed) suspect they will be very durable. Had mine a couple of years.

You can buy gaitors to go over standard boots.

Find someone in the industry, they normally have a cupboard of old boots.
I gave my last pair to a mate recently for home duties.
Everything else in our cupboard is for the trainees and mostly the welly type which are pretty cheap anyway.
Safety standards are normally increased for occasional users rather than lowered, I wouldn’t fancy the gaiters myself.
