Having not played any chess in ages, I’m thoroughlyy enjoying STW-T10. Thanks again irc and everyone else playing : )

As STW 10 is well under way and only a few games left is there any interest in an STW 10A for the players dropping out in Round 1. Gets them more games while STW 10 finishes. And more games with players of similar gradings.

Speaking of gradings I’m in a couple of non STW touraments with quite a few players graded under 1000 who are playing unbelievably solid. I see my grading dropping a but after a few of those results.

PS Posted in the other Chess thread – but anyone interested in a book for openings aimed at the lower graded player/beginner I can recommend one I just bought second hand. Had it years ago. A selection of common openings with move by move explanation. Out of print but around £5 delivered, second hand on Amazon.

I’d be keen on another tournament of whatever kind, if possible. Down to a move every 48 hours now in T10 – which will take a long time still at this rate.
Preferably 24 hours a move if that suited others.

STW T10A is now set up and invites out to all those not progessing to STW 10 round 2. I’m assuming appltn won’t win his remaining 5 games.

So there should be messages out from Chess.com. Or click

    If not I’d be keen – Django2357

As it happens even if everyone where to misses round 2 signs up for 10a there is a spare space. You’re the lowest graded in Round 2 as well. So go for it.

And a reminder for anyone not making the cut in round 1 to join STW 10a if they wish

Cheers. My level is definitely more in line with those that didn’t get through. Big gap to the top two 😀

An invite will come through on chess.com?

Some really close games in this second round!

Had a close call with @RamseyNeil (Wasnevergreat) before finally getting the win.
Also I’m currently struggling against @rony (chessron) after a careless move left me losing a rook.

My consistency seems to be all over the place.

    Working fine for me.
Which is a shame as I’m currently being beaten by @irc and I think I’ve agreed a draw with @stevomcd (technically I’m a pawn up but he’s got the better position so who knows…)

Swings and roundabouts. I’m a piece down against Stevie.

Working OK on laptop and phone today (Firefox). I sometimes get an issue on Firefox where I can’t queen a pawn and need to use snother browser to make the move.

I had a weird glitch the other day as well. Looked like I had loads of time, then suddenly jumped forward a few hours. Think it actually put me into holiday mode in one game! I’m sure the updated time was correct, just app hadn’t update correctly for a while.

    @crazy-legs
    – let’s just say I was very happy to accept that draw!

Enjoying the tournaments at the moment. I am in the fortunate position of being in both T10 and T10a. T10 is beyond me, but enjoyable none the less – I think I am little more than an minor frustration at best in those games.
T10a is very close, pretty much everyone can end on 11 or 11.5 points if they win their remaining games – with appltn and vince potentially scoring more.

So, thanks again to all and to irc for arranging.

T10A is a great tournament. Very close at the moment. Some of the games have swung quite dramatically. I came from behind to win one where I’d almost resigned after losing my queen which I was quite chuffed with. On the other hand I made a couple of real blunders yesterday to lose games where I was ahead.

Not exactly top quality chess (I think every player has made blunders that probably made them wince) but enjoyable, competitive and played in a sporting manner……which at my level is far more important.

Already looking forward to T11, maybe in the New Year.

    PS Has T1 finished yet?

    Not exactly top quality chess

    what do you mean?😉😂
I was reading this morning about: “Bodhana Sivanandan earned a place in chess record books last Saturday when the Harrow schoolgirl, just seven years old, tied for second prize in the UK women’s blitz championship at Leamington Spa”. 7 years old!
But, yes T10a has been great.

I’m aware that sympathy is likely to be limited on this one but I made the mistake of glancing at the phone on the chairlift this afternoon and played 3 « straightforward » moves with a 100% blunder rate. I am well aware from previous bitter experience that chairlift play does not provide the required focus. Oh well. Occupational hazard I guess!
