Slightly daft sounding question but where would I go to find a range of stowage boxes for the back of my mark 2 Puggy Partner? Ideally have a lid and be stackable and lock in place so the top one won’t slide around when cornering.

Car is a tip as it is used to moved humans with kit around and isn’t really a status symbol. Saying that, I’ve had enough of throwing stuff in and making everything fit. So I’m thinking 2 boxes to fill a third of the rear would be good – smaller one would hold some trailbuilding stuff like saws and gloves, bigger one would hold helmets, shoes (biking, rugby and walking)…basically somewhere to stick the dirty stuff out the way and make the car seem less of a tip.

Had a quick nosey online but can’t seem to find what I’m after – long and slender, but it seems to be short and wide.

Anyone got a link to a possible supplier please?

    Cheers.

the Hill Company on eBay – ex-rental (although everything I’ve bought from them looks practically new) removal crates

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/thehillcompany

the 40 Litre ones are good size – decent length but not too tall – lidded and will nest inside each other when not in use. Not too big to lug about but large enough to be stable if you stack them. But there’s lots of variety on their page. Much tougher than the typical clear plastic stacking boxes – they’ll out last you and the car.

With the stacking / nesting type boxes you don’t need to lock them together when you’re driving – they just need to the the same size / same footprint and they’ll stay put (if they were locked together and you were driving enthusiastically enough they’d just fall over if they were locked together) but its never been a problem them in my Partner.

I have some of those moving crates (in 80lt I think) for garage duty. They are bomb proof and well worth it for the money. Other option is some similar quality collapsible crates. No lid and lots of holes but better for a boot IMO. YMMV.

We use click and stack boxes.
Got yhem from staples years ago, think B&Q sell them currently.
Have the 40 litre ones and can fit a good amount in them.

Really useful boxes. Good range of sizes including a Christmas tree type storage box, stackable as the base nests into the lid, handles flip up to lock lid.good square sides so easy to utilise internal space. Available anywhere, Homebase, craft stores, b&q etc.

I’ve got some 80 litre ones that came on the market when Woolworths went bust – used for their stock distribution – they’ve got ’01’ london phone numbers on them – they must have been bouncing round the country in trucks for 30 years before I bought them.

80 litres is a bit of handful to carry if you fill it with stuff and prob a bit to bulky to work flexibly in the back of a blingo (unless you have the seats down) but 40 and 60 litre ones have the same footprint as each other and fit quite neatly

and many, many more. Its a problem, a fetish, I’m the same with bags. I’m a storage addict.

The wham boxes are tough, cheap and have lasted well.

    That’s what I’ve got. I bought another 4 yesterday.

You can use the hook side of some adhesive velcro on the bottom to stop them from sliding around in a car boot. Assuming you’ve got carpet in there.

Really useful +1, sometimes BnQ have decent deals on them. I’ve got loads of them, keep all my mtb stuff, hillwalking, camping stuff etc in them, magic.

    Yes, I am that sad.

@maccruiskeen – how much width do those take up? I tend to have a bike in the middle so want to be sure it sits behind the rear seat at the side but leaves space for middle and other side of the boot.

    They look spot on though.

Plasticboxshop are great and have a box finder on their site so you can find something to match particular internal or external dimensions.

    The 40 liitre ones are 600mm x 400mm and 250mm tall

the 60 litre ones are same footprint and 320mm tall

Made some custom drawers for my Berlingo with a plywood floor above it. The 2 of them fill the base of the boot and only 15cm tall so can still get my bike in standing up.

I would add photos on here but I don’t have a degree in rocket science to work out how to do it.

Really useful boxes have parallel sides which is really er.. useful. Many that are made by vacuum forming taper and this wastes loads of space when trying to put them together in a space.

All injection moulded plastic boxes will have a taper on the sides, otherwise you would not be able to eject it off the male side of the mould tool in the machine.

I suppose the point is that if there is a taper then it really is minimal, 9l box tapers about 3mm top to bottom (150mm)

Well there actually is a taper on a RUB and there is also a lip at the top. But you lose less space internally because the taper isn’t that noticeable. Thinking about it, this may also exist to allow them to be stacked in transit as much as for the manufacturing process.

Agree with Molly, big taper is a pain. Also like RUBs being clear, you can see what’s in em.

This can be overcome with a Side-action Mould tool.

RUBs come in a bewildering range of sizes and shapes. I love em. Bit pricey mind (probably because they’re using a side action mould…)

I’ll try posting a couple of photos of what I made.

I left a slight gap on each side so I could still use the cars anchor points for my bikes.
Paint was just some left over anti mould bathroom paint.
