Is there any reason the ones that can be had for £15 on eBay aren’t as good as the ones that are much more money?

As far as I can tell they all use the same principles?

I had the same Q a few years back. Went for the cheapie…no regrets. Would be good to hear from someone who has used both though 🙂

The majority of fans are thermo-electric fans and are branded as eco fans, and all work under the same principle except, there are a few high end fans at about£150 are actual Stirling motor fans and are completely mechanical. The thermo-electric fans have a motor. The overall principle of a heat difference motor is the same, except one is achieved by creating a flow of electricity, the other is purely mechanical!

Anyone want to do the maths for the volume of air shifted by one of these fans, and the distance it moves? Because I call bunk. Air circulation by convection makes these fans irrelevant. I speak as a woodburnerist who has examined friends silly fans.

I picked up one from Aldi this week for £24.99.
I’ve not yet warmed it up to test it but for that money, with a three year warranty, and so long as it works, it seems great value compared to some.

I speak as a fan specialist and woodburnerista (facist really), they make a difference. If you move any air using an impeller then you will change the movement of air around a room, how much though with this size of fan and its speed?
I could organise a simple performance test but how would we agree on the associated environmental conditions that a woodburner presents. Could be fun though in a sad kind of way.

I have a cheapy. Its now a bit noisy. the more expensive ones will be more powerful a well. However I am convinced it makes a difference – and I am sad enough to have et up a series of temperature measurements wth and without the fan.

    Sadly I don’t have a stove anymore.
I had a fan (Eco something) I felt it made a difference, but only in the room that the stove was in.
Without it there was a huge hot spot near the stove, with it the heat seemed more equal, still with a hot spot near the stove but not as much.

We’ve got a stove fan, but no stove.

Canadian Ecofan job. moving in present, stove not installed yet.

I’ve put it on the hot plate and I was surprised how much air it chucks out. noticeable breeze even from 10 feet away. Already thought I wouldn’t have it pointed directly at the sofa. I’ve no doubt if will even out heat in the room.

Convection would push hot air up, across the ceiling, cooling it on the single glazed windows opposite, leaving a tepid breeze on the back of the ankles.
