    Rusty Shimano 520 pedals

Around 15 years use of mountain biking, commuting and road. Bearings are still perfectly smooth, still clip in / out nicely, but they are just too shabby looking now. Fortunately I had another set on standby with a mere 12 years use ready to take over!

It’s been said before and will be said again.. after the nuclear / zombie apocalypse all that will be left is cockroaches, and Shimano 520 pedals

    They’ll clean up OK.

Mine don’t last that long, but they do wear well.

MK1 Toyota Yaris and SP3 Plastic Novacraft Canoes also.

    It’s bad Karma.

Give ’em a polish and turn them into novelty door handles.

Bit of oxalic acid, and they’re good for another 15 years…

Well they are not worn out yet then.

    Clean ’em up.

Same. Never actually killed a pair though.

Must share common lineage with a bic biro. They’ll be lost/stolen or sold, long before you ever actually finish them off.

Stick them on eBay as mint condition! 🙂

They look in better condition than mine though.

Pretty good, but still have a way to go to keep up with my Times, which are entering their 21st year…!

Then all you need is the plastic collar tool (or some sense with a vice) and 7mm and 10mm spanners and you can nip them up again. A load of grease in the end of the body, screw the axle in and all the old grease is purged through.

It’s genius. One of the simplest, most impressive bits of kit I’ve ever owned. I tend to wear the metal of the body out/down well before the bearings are done for.

I’ve got a set of Time Z Freerides that are about 16/17 years old and still going strong.
