My FiL has got a new PC coming. Me in my role as family IT officer will be setting it up. He’s a bit clueless when it comes to computers and in the past I’ve had to sort out his computers with dodgy software, those crappy search bars etc installed…

Is it worth me to make his user account Standard rather than Admin or will it be more trouble than it’s worth? He lives 30 mins away so not a big deal to go and sort it if he needs something installing (and I think there was a thread on here recently on how to remote to a PC with another lockdown imminent?)…

You can set him as a standard user as long as he realises that you’re the in control of the PC and he has to willingly cede control to you. Otherwise he’ll get annoyed. You can then set up yourself as a remote user. But this means if he wants to install software he’ll have to raise a ticket with you 🙂

All depends on how much software he’s likely to want to install.
