    Brant’s slotted drop out innit.
One of my favourtie bits of bike design.
Makes for a very versatile frame giving SS or geared options without the need for a shaggy sprung tensioner underneath.
Also caliper position neutralises the normal problem of rear axle shifting along trackends when uses with a disc brake. Smart cookie that northerner.

My mate has just got one of the new scandal slotteds for just the same reason. I used to have a vertical drop out scandal before the Ti29. Was a superb ride.

just use an old rear mech to tension. Better than tensioners IMO/E

Not a 29er ton, but another of Brant’s solutions

i have a nice alfine tensioner in the garage.
think i will use that. tried the rear mech option, it would not keep inline.

Simple elegant solution, the bike is supplied with two drive side dropouts one with a gear hanger one without, it takes around 30 seconds to adjust the chain tension and the brake caliper never needs adjustment (unlike some sliding designs).

Still needs links taking out and rear brake sorting.

Dibbs …what frame is that and surely if only one side is adjusted to alter chain tension then doesn’t that put the wheel out of line? ❓

Whyte 19, and both sides adjust.

Stoner, It’s rivveted on. Cheapo chainring I sourced off an old bike. Will be replaced when I get the chance.

surfr, if you’re keeping it as ss I think you need(?*) to shorten that chain quite a lot for better coverage of the cog at the back. might stop you banging your bollox on the stem when the chain jumps.

    (*NB – IRnotA SSer)

Its easier to get more coverage if you add a half link, or use a half link chain. They’re not to pricey either. whole chain 12.99 or something from Charlie the bike monger i think.

Yeh it does need more links taking out, as I mentioned beneath the photo. Might try a halflink chain when this one inevitably stretches. It’s only a cheap Miche 1/8 I had knocking about.
