My x9 rear D has developed an extremely active spring return. This basically means that when any compression occurs it returns like a bat out of hell and sounds extremely rattly. Any ideas?

Your lucky…. I’ve had to send 2 X-9 rear mechs back as there because of an un-active spring

Second you being lucky… the spring in my last one went after 5 rides. Is there nowhere you could pad it out with some v. soft foam to dampen the noise?

my guess is that yr spring is as knackered as theirs (^) and the rattle is failure to return prioperly & leaving chain loose

nah…its returning so quick is bouncing on impact. Need to add a ‘rebound’ feature.

    +1 for sloth like spring.

Can I buy a replacement main spring or do you have to get a new rear mech??

Get some foam in there, you’ll look like Sam Hill too 🙂 Or I’ll swap you with mine, it works fine as long as you’re in big-big.
