  • Sram 1x set up with 2x rear mech

Quick question as I’m having a bit of a Sunday brain fart moment.

I need to fit a new mech to the current 1x 11 set up. However, in my wisdom I seem to have purchased a 2x 11 rear mech. Now my thinking is this won’t matter and everything will run sweet, but I’ll just have a bigger mech and larger rock target hanging off the back of the bike.

So, anyone running a Sram 1x set up but with a 2x 11 long cage rear mech and is it all ok?

Also do I need to add more links to the chain?

    Cheers

According to Sram both rear mechs have a max tooth capacity of 42 and yes, I’m running a 10/42 cassette

I ran a sram gx 2×11 rear mech with a single ring up front no issues for over a year

Yep, it’s absolutely fine. The only difference is a 2x mech will generally be limited to maximum sprocket size (albeit I’ve read that GX can go to 46)
