If I want to upgrade the shock on the newer enduro from fox to cane creek db inline. Do I need a new yoke as well? Do I need to find a shock that came off another enduro? Or can I do it with a standard CCDB inline shock and the yoke that attaches to the fox shock?

You have to get an enduro specific one, they are produced for specialised with the yoke.

Although I did see a picture of someone running a rockshock monarch so it may be possible if you are a skilled tinkerer.

The inline cane creek fitted as standard to many enduros has been rather poor with a fair few failures
My mate got a monarch from Spesh as a warranty replacent. Don’t know if you can buy them though

You can buy all the Monarch versions for the enduro in the mounting size. Think places in germany were pricing very well.

Do not buy a CCDB. Pretty much every one i see, including mine has been swapped for a monarch by spesh.

Standard CCDB coil is f*ckin excellent. Has to be ordered through a proper supplier tho’ as the yoke needs a specific end fitting. Just get that. If you’re riding a 180mm enduro, weight is not going to be a major barrier.

I have a ccdb inline on mine, not had any problem with it, although I would have preferred the ccdb air and did ask the lbs to try and source a bike from last year, but there were non left.

Everything I here about the current monarch suggests it has taken a march on the competition and that is what I would spend my money on currently.

I thought the CCDBinline was meant to be better – more of a coil feel. Sounds like the internets disagrees with me.

If I put a rock shox on, can I use the same yoke, or do I need new yoke?

Is the standard CCDB Air ok or is that bad too? does it fit on the enduro?

I ditched the CC Inline that came with my spesh E29. Never got on with it, always felt harsh on square edges. Spent lots of time trying to dial it in, always returned to the stock setting.

Monarch plus RC3 suits the FSR much better. Real plush and composed.

A mate just bought a new one and they swapped the cane creek out from the off because of the aforementioned issues. He now has whatever the suitable Rockshox one is.

I got an Enduro 29 about 4 weeks ago and I’ll be looking to swap the inline for a monarch ASAP. I did borrow an ohlins coil shock from the local shop and that was in a different league again.

None of these coil shocks can lock out though can they – not great for climbing, unfortunately. Sounds like loads of interesting things going on in suspension at the moment though, so maybe worth sticking with the fox a while to see how it pans out.

If I did want a monarch plus, is it a worthwhile upgrade over the fox, and does it need fettling to fit the fox yoke?

Specialized can supply a monarch to fit. Your local dealer should be able to get it from them.
The ohlins coil I tried was fantastic uphill once I’d got it set up. I was also refreshing not to have to flick a switch before and after each downhill.

I have had absolutely no problems with mine it performs rather well, and only wanted the non inline because I am a big guy and it handles heat build up better.

If I was replacing it, I would go for the monarch, because it is newer and probably a tad better (according to rumour) and cheaper. But if you can get a good price on a ccdb inline I would have no problems recommending it.

@MSP Nice. Anyone got a link to a coil option for the 29er priced in euros? does a 29er coil option even exist?

I was planning an upgrade from 26 to 650b on my 2013 enduro as I had the chance to get new seat/chain stays and yoke. I bought a CCDB inline to run 650b and ran it on the bike in 26 mode without any problems at all. The shock is shorter eye to eye marginally so slackened the HA very slightly.

In the end I went for a new 650 enduro as the deal for the parts fell through. I had the option of Monarch debonair or inline on the new frame and stayed with the CCDB. no problems with it at all.

If i remember correctly the E29 and 650 have the same shock size.

We are running CCDB airs on two S Works Enduros. Had a leak on one of them but Specialized sorted a new one. They are both working fine uphill and downhill. Not had to use the climb switch yet. Set up as the CC website recommends

There were similar stories with the Demo, it had a reputation for breaking shafts on the CCDB Coil.

thats bollox, the yolk that the shock is attached to gives too much lateral flex to the shaft which is what causes the issue. Other shocks will suffer the same issue eventually. its a poor design by specialized. my inline has been perfect

Spec have dropped the inline for the Enduro for 2016

Looks like they are moving to an ohlins shock on their top models, who they seem to be partnering. Not quite the same as dropping the inline. Personally I don’t think the inline is the right shock for a bike with enduro level travel and capability, a “burlier” air shock is a more natural fit.

However if the inline problems are real, I hope mine lasts long enough for ohlins to be able to take my money.

The Ohlins TTX is on the S-Works, all the others on Monarchs (except the coil Evo one)

I even heard the demo fleet have monarch’s. They’re also replacing them no questions asked.
