  • SPD-SL on 25 cm Q-factor fanbike – how to avoid knee pain?

I’ve mounted SP-SL pedals to my Rouge Echo fanbike, but its huge 25 cm Q factor is making my knees hurt I believe, not helped by using blue cleats with minimal float (my roadbike has a 15 cm Q factor).

Get another pair of shoes and use yellow cleats angled more outwards?

This is going to be killing aero no? 🤭

    (Yeah I know it’s stationery).

Maybe you’re just putting too much power down for your knees?

Are you sure it’s not your watts bending the cranks in every rotation?

Do you have (or can borrow) some grippy flat pedals? Do a few sessions with them, and if pain free then you have a basis of a useable foot position.

This is a fatbike problem. SPD-SL might be unfeasible, guess the next step would be testing different/angled out cleats to see if the problem goes away then, if not I’ll need to put the flats back on.
