Which direction is the movement that’s a bit much? SPDs have a fair amount of float (Not as much as Time pedals) allowing your foot to rotate horizontally on the pedal.
I always know if I’ve set my cleats up correctly as when I pedal, if it’s not correct, through each pedal revolution I will feel my knee want to twist slightly but is stopped by my foot being unable to rotate on the pedal.
:edit: It’s probably best not to over analyse and better to just go ride. Give the ones you’ve got on a try. If you think it’s still too much movement, try the new cleats.
